Expect contract to be fulfilled

The recent comments by WilliamsF1 team boss Sir Frank Williams has caused speculation as to what the future line-up of the WilliamsF1 team would be. Williams had commented, in an interview for the Sunday Times, that "some people might be surprised" by the driver situation for next year.

Juan Pablo MontoyaAt the time of his making these comments there was the view that this had something to do with a possible move by Juan Pablo Montoya to the McLaren team for 2004.

But in recent statements by a WilliamsF1 spokesman it would appear that the team is now trying to clarify exactly what Frank meant by his comments.

The spokesman said: "Frank's position on this remains as it was two or three months ago and what I think he was trying to say is don't assume Juan will move away. We have a contract with Juan until 2005 and we expect it to be fulfilled. There is a lot of detail to go through but at the moment the only thing we are concerned about is the race this weekend."

How hard WilliamsF1 will fight to keep Montoya with the team will depend on a range of factors including whether or not Juan Pablo is able to win this years drivers title, with the resulting salary demands by Juan Pablo, to whether McLaren is even interested in taking on the Colombian.
