| Jerez Test 01:10:2003 Day One of Four | |
The BMW
WilliamsF1 team was back out testing, in preparation for the Japanese Grand
Prix, at the Jerez circuit in Spain. Present were Ralf Schumacher and
Marc gene. With
the track still wet after showers the previous day it was not until the
afternoon that the team could start testing. Unsurprisingly Ralf would
finish the day fastest, with Gene more than half a second slower than his
team-mate. Both drivers would spend their day testing tyres for Michelin. With the wet and slippery conditions the team would take the opportunity to test some of Michelin's wet weather tyres, including a shallow grooved wet tyre. Once the conditions improved the team would test four different dry weather tyres types. Ralf would complete eighty two laps and set the fastest time, a lap of 1m:20.393. For Marc he would complete forty one laps, his fastest lap been a time of 1m:20.941. The only problem of the day was when Marc was to crash his car against the tyre barriers causing damage to the front of his car, which his mechanics were able to repair to allow Marc to return to testing. The team will continue testing on Thursday Tim Newton, WilliamsF1 Test
Team Manager, had the following comments regarding the days test: "Ralf and
Marc undertook testing responsibilities at Jerez circuit today with both
drivers concentrating on set up work of the FW25 and tyre testing for the
final race of the season at Suzuka. |
