Montoya regains his fighting spirit

For BMW WilliamsF1 driver Juan Pablo Montoya the disappointment in losing any hope of securing his first Drivers title was simply massive. It has taken Juan Pablo some time to get over this a finally make some comment on how he felt after the race, where he finished sixth.

MontoyaJuan Pablo's race was marred by a collision with Ferrari's Rubens Barrichello, which would later see him incur a drive through penalty. The race stewards felt that Juan Pablo was guilty of having caused the incident.

To say that Juan Pablo did not accept the decision is putting it very mildly. After the race he was so upset by the decision and how it cost him any hope of securing the drivers title that he left the track refusing to give any interviews.

After several days have past Juan Pablo has commented in an interview for the British newspaper The Sun saying: “I left the track quickly because I was so mad. Anything I would have said would have got me into trouble. I was so annoyed.”

His criticism of the decision is also supported by BMW Motorsport Director Mario Theissen.

Dr Theissen said: “From my point of view the decision to punish Juan Pablo for having caused this incident is questionable at least. In my opinion this was a normal race incident.”

Juan Pablo added: "Without the penalty I feel I could have been second or third, which would have put me either five or seven points behind Michael with everything to play. It would have been great for me, for Williams and the sport had it still been a three-way battle in Suzuka.”

But even with having to cope with the disappointment of seeing his title hope disappear Juan Pablo is again prepared to fight at the next round in Japan.

“At least I have shown I am capable of fighting for a World Championship”, he continued. “Indianapolis was the first time in nine races I’ve not been on the podium. My own title chances may have disappeared but I’ll be fighting for the runner-up spot and trying hard to hand the BMW WilliamsF1 Team the Constructors’ Championship."
