Coulthard deserved victory

For Ferrari's Michael Schumacher the 2002 Monaco Grand Prix would see him finish second behind long time rival David Coulthard. Michael felt that he had a winning car but was not able to make the most of it on the tight and difficult Monaco circuit. Michael was to comment later saying that David deserved his hard fought victory.

David CoulthardMichel was competing in his 100th race for Ferrari so a race victory would have been the ideal result , but this was not to be as he would finish second. But he would still come away from the race with an extended his lead in the Championship.

Michael said: "I think our car was fast enough to have stayed in front if we had got there, but David had built a good lead over (second-placed) Montoya. If there had not been some traffic after the pit stop, it might have been closer, but they did a good job and deserve the win.

"I kept pushing right to the end because in Monaco you never know what can happen, but David drove well and never gave me a chance. It was typical Monaco in that even if you know you are faster you just have to be patient. Actually it was quit e entertaining watching Juan Pablo. The car was good today and the backmarkers did a good job of keeping out of the way."
