| Michael angry with Montoya | |

Sunday's Monaco Grand Prix would see several controversial incidents one
involving Ferrari's Michael
Schumacher and the WilliamsF1 FW26 of Juan Pablo Montoya. Michael was to
claim that Montoya had contributed to his accident by misjudging the
situation as Montoya followed Michael behind the pace car. The pair weer following the safety car through the tunnel when Michael was to brake suddenly and Montoya was to hit the rear of the Ferrari. The FW26 would find no room in which to pass Michael's F2004 and would pitch the Ferrari into the barrier. Michael was able to continue with his car coming out the end of the tunnel but with the front left corner of the car badly damaged and damaged nose cone.
Montoya responded by saying that Michael had accelerated hard and then braked equally hard. Juan Pablo said:
"I moved to the right to try and avoid him and put the car up against the
wall so we wouldn't hit and we just touched.
Ferrari's Technical Director Ross Brawn commented on the incident by saying:
"It was very unfortunate. You don't want to go out of a race
for that reason. We were informed that the Safety Car was coming in and it
is normal to warm your brakes up. Juan Pablo hit the back of him. But backing up Juan Pablo was WilliamsF1 Technical Director Patrick Head, who denied that Montoya caused the incident. "No matter what Michael or Ross (Brawn) might think, Juan is not a dirty driver," Head said. "He knows what respecting a fellow driver is and there were no dirty tricks. Juan has said that Michael put the brakes on hard and I don't think that is a wise thing to do in a dark tunnel. The stewards have asked to see both of them." |
