In an encouraging start to the weekend the BMW WilliamsF1 team would finish 3rd & 5th after Friday practice in Germany. Juan Pablo would still lead team-mate Pizzonia but now both drivers were near the top of the times. Both drivers would have moments during the second session.

German GP Friday 2nd Practice

For the BMW WilliamsF1 team the second Friday practice session would see both Juan Pablo and Antonio improve on their times seeing them in third and fifth positions in the times. This was a very encouraging start to the weekend. Been the home Grand Prix of engine supplier BMW coming away with a good result this weekend has even more importance.

MontoyaThe only moment during the session was a moment for Juan Pablo at Turn twelve early in the session. For Antonio his time certainly shows that he has the pace this weekend, whether it will result in a good race performance is yet to be seen but the signs are encouraging.

With BAR’s Anthony Davidson the pace setter from the earlier Friday practice the second practice session would see Toyota's Cristiano da Matta and Olivier Panis head out on the track. They were quickly followed by others and Da Matta would be the first to set a time of 1m:19.989 followed by Panis with a 1m:18.124.

Jaguar's Bjorn Wirdheim would go faster than both Toyota drivers with a 1m:17.872. But it would be Toyota test driver Ricardo Ricardo Zonta who would go fastest with a 1m:17.421. These times were far off what was achieved in the earlier session. Michael Schumacher would go fastest but Jaguar's Mark Webber, despite not running in the earlier session, would move to the top f the times with a 1m:17.349. Davidson would quickly pick up where he left off by setting the fastest time in the session so far with a of 1m:16.307.

Antonio Pizzonia would have a moment when he would almost spin at the tight hairpin. Kimi Raikkonen would move into third with a 1m:16.550. Jordan's Giorgio Pantano would improve with a time of 1m:17.869, which would see him in thirteenth. For the Renault team the start of their weekend look far from good with Alonso and Trulli down in fifteenth and seventeenth positions.

Michael Schumacher would return to the track and he would easily jump to the top of the times with a 1m:15.362, .945 seconds quicker than Anthony Davidson. Team-mate Barrichello would move into second behind his team-mate with a 1m:15.738. For BAR Takuma Sato would move into second with a 1m:15.657, but just as quickly Pizzonia would push the Japanese driver down one place when he set a time of 1m:15.470. With Button improving his time moving into fifth we had all three BAR drivers in the top six.

PizzoniaFor Renault their fortunes would improve when Alonso jumps up into fourth position with a lap of 1m:15.677. Kimi Raikkonen would certainly show that the new McLaren was a major improvement by taking first position with a stunning time of 1m:15.045, just one tenth off the circuit record. With this the top eight were Raikkonen, Michael Schumacher, Pizzonia, Sato, Alonso, Barrichello, Button and Davidson. But Michael Schumacher would return things back to there normal positions when he resumed his place at the top pf the times with a 1m:15.001.

Davidson would move into fourth place with a 1m:15.576, while team-mate Button would move into third place with a time of 1m:15.379. With about fifteen minutes of the session left to run Juan Pablo would set the third best time of the afternoon, a time of 1m:15.167. In the middle order the Jaguar's of Mark Webber and Christian Klein were in eleventh and fourteenth respectively. Like Jaguar Toyota were also struggling with their new TF104B with both da Matta and Panis down near the bottom of the times.

David Coulthard would move into tenth with a time of 1m:16.265. BAR's Jenson Button though would stop out on the circuit on the start finish straight ending his session. As the session came to a close the only moment was when Coulthard would spin his car at Turn two trying to improve his time. So with the end of the session the top eight were Michael Schumacher, Raikkonen, Montoya, Button, Pizzonia, Davidson, Sato and Alonso.
