Out to win races

Ever since his arrival in Formula One BMW Williams driver Juan Pablo Montoya has made a name for himself as been a driver who is forceful on the track, as seen by his on-track fights with Ferrari's Michael Schumacher, but despite this Montoya does not see himself as been a driver that is prepared to do things to far, like shoving drivers off the track simply to achieve success.

Juan Pablo MontoyaMontoya commented on this part of his character by comparing it to the boxer Mike Tyson, who made a name for himself not only for his boxing but also all the scandals that he was to get himself involved in.

Montoya said: "Although I'm an aggressive driver and I fight for success, I won't certainly bite anybody as for example Mike Tyson did it."

He added: " I'm a fair driver, but I defend my lane and I don't shove anybody off the track. However, when I have the chance to overtake somebody in the race, this has nothing to do with respect or the lack of it."

Montoya's aim is to win races and since he started in Formula One that is what he has focused on. In 2001 he would achieve his first race victory and so far in 2002 he has had several podium finishes and pole positions but is still trying to secure his first win.

Montoya said: "I'm in the highest division of motorsport in order to win races, and that's all I'm interested in. I love to take part in races. The Formula 1 is my life. But it's not money and fame, it's the opposite."

With the next Grand Prix only days away Juan Pablo once again has the opportunity, so long as his car allows him to do so, to show his talent and character out on the track as he again tries to beat not only his team-mate Ralf Schumacher but also his chief rival Michael Schumacher.
