Bridgestone looks for extra team

It has been reported that tyre supplier Bridgestone is looking to secure the services of another Formula One team for 2005. The team whose names have been mentioned include those of Renault, Toyota, and WilliamsF1.

All three of these teams are currently supplied by Bridgestone's rivals Michelin. It was also reported that Bridgestone have made approaches to all six Michelin supplied teams.

Bridgestone is hoping to attract another team, who is supported by a car manufacturer, to allow for further development opportunities.

Only Renault, Toyota, and WilliamsF1 responded to Bridgestone' s approaches by asking for additional information. On the face of it Renault is unlikely to switch camps despite these reports been a French company. As for Toyota it is a Japanese car manufacturer and there would be links to the Japanese tyre supplier.

As for WilliamsF1 they have been one of Michelin's top teams but in the several years since they commenced their partnership WilliamsF1 has not had the success they had hoped for, so they may consider a change. The WilliamsF1 team did use Bridgestone tyres at the start of the partnership with BMW.
