Barcelona Test 27:06:2002 - Day Three of Four

After his difficulties, including an engine failure and fire on Wednesday, WilliamsF1 test driver Antonio Pizzonia was able to get on with further testing with his morning focusing on tyre testing.

After the disappointing performance of the teams Michelin tyres in the European Grand Prix the team was evaluating various tyres in regard to  tyre wear. Pizzonia would complete over 400 kilometres, with his fastest lap been a 1m:18.058 good enough for third.

Marc GeneFor Marc Gené his day was spent on the traction-control and adjusting the car’s set-up. He would complete seventy nine laps with a best time of 1m:19.451, good enough for eighth position. He was to suffer two engine failures during the day.

The day's fastest time went to McLaren's Kimi Raikkonen, with a time of 1m:17.777 which was close to Button's Wednesday time. Raikkonen was joined by Alex Wurz Marc who finished second. Between the two drivers they carried out tyre and suspension testing.

Marc and Antonio are going on to complete the four days of testing at Barcelona for the BMW WilliamsF1 Team this Friday. Another incident happened at the end of the session, when Felipe Massa crashed heavily. Massa would finish the day with the seventh fastest time.

Heinz Harald Frentzen took fourth, continuing the Arrows teams tyre evaluation programme started earlier this week by Bernoldi. Jordan driver Giancarlo Fisichella spent time setting up his Jordan for Silverstone and working on the mapping of the new Honda engine.

For Jaguar's Eddie Irvine today was the first opportunity for him to run the R3B Jaguar. Irvine would only set the eighth fastest time of the day but his runs were more like installation laps rather than serious testing, which will commence tomorrow. Tomorrow will also see Mark Webber test for Jaguar in the R3 chassis.
