Monza Test 10:07:2002 Day Two of Four

The second day of testing at the Monza circuit would see WilliamsF1 test driver Antonio Pizzonia again the quickest. The second ay would see WilliamsF1 and Toyota joined by Jaguar and BAR.

Antonio PizzoniaPizzonia's time was more than half a second ahead of Toyota's Allan McNish. The power advantage of the BMW engine made it very easy for Pizzonia to set the fastest times using the power to effect on the long Monza straights. Pizzonia would complete ninety two laps with a best time of 1m:23.976. This was to be a personal best time for Pizzonia at this circuit.

In the morning Pizzonia conducted testing of the FW24 set-up. Moreover the crew of the BMW WilliamsF1 Team worked on the further development of the car's aerodynamics.

In the afternoon tyre testing with various Michelin tyre compounds were on Pizzonia's agenda. He was also given the opportunity of setting some fast times, thus his personal best.

In addition to that the 21-year-old could reach a first class mileage with the WilliamsF1 BMW FW24. On the Italian circuit Pizzonia covered 538.7 kilometres or 93 laps, respectively. A comparison: During a Formula 1 Grand Prix the drivers lap that circuit only 53 times.

For McNish he for the second day would again have to overcome difficulties with his Toyota. McNish said: "Generally we made some progress with the car over the kerbs, but it is all about the whole package and Mika will continue with this during tomorrow's session. At least the team got rid of the clutch problem experienced at Silverstone."

BAR's Anthony Davidson finished in third, but his time on the track was limited because of gearbox problems. His team-mate Patrick Lemarie conducted some engine work for Honda and also did some running in Honda's Athena chassis according to reports.

Jaguar's Pedro de la Rosa and Andre Lotterer finished in fourth and fifth respectively, gathering more data with the new R3B chassis. Both Jaguar drivers were two seconds behind Pizzonia's best time.
