The BMW WilliamsF1 team would return to testing , this time at the Jerez
circuit, in preparation for the French Grand Prix at Magny-Cours. Test
driver Antonio Pizzonia was joined by Nick Heidfeld as the team tested
several new developments for the FW27.
The team had a
new aerodynamic package that will be used at the French Grand Prix. The job
of testing this was given to Nick but he was to have difficulties with over
heating problems with the car. He would only complete twenty eight laps and
would finish slowest on the day with a time of 1m:19.968.
The day would not go any better for Antonio as he was to crash his car in
the morning session. This would see the session red=flagged as his car was
returned to the teams garage. Prior to his accident he would focus on tyre
testing for Michelin. He would complete sixty four laps with a best time of
1m:18.683.

Team Manager Tim Newton commented: "Antonio Pizzonia spent today’s session
tyre testing with Michelin while Nick Heidfeld completed some exploratory
running of the new MK2 bodywork. Over the course of the day, we identified
some expected teething problems which we will be working on this evening
before re-evaluating tomorrow. At present, it looks promising but we have
some homework to do. Both Nick and Antonio will be on duty again for the
team tomorrow.”" |
