Qualifying for the British Grand Prix would see Mark Webber and Nick Heidfeld finish in twelfth and fourteenth grid positions. Based on the teams practice performance this was about where one would expect them to be as they continue to sort out the FW27.

WebberWith the news that Kimi Raikkonen's will lose ten places after qualifying for having to again change his Mercedes-Benz engine after it failed in the final practice session for the British Grand Prix.

Red Bull's Christian Klien would be the first out and the Austrian would set a time of 1m:22.207 to take provisional pole. His time was 1.2 seconds slower than he had been able to achieve in practice. The rest of the first group consisted of Massa, Friesacher, Albers, and Montoya. Massa would start his lap and was behind Klein in all the sectors, finishing with a time of 1m:22.495 to move into second.

For Friesacher his lap would see his Minardi look very difficult in the high speed corners of Silverstone. He was 1.3 seconds slower than Klein in just the first sector. He would finish with a time of 1m:25.566 which was 3.359 seconds behind Klein, a massive margin. Now it was the second Minardi of Albers who was out on his single lap. Like his team-mate Albers would struggle throughout the whole lap finishing with a time of 1m:24.576, which at least put him ahead of his team-mate.

Now it was the turn of one of the quicker drivers with Montoya starting his lap. He was quicker by half a second in the first sector. He was again up in the second sector and would complete his lap with the fastest time, a lap of
1m:20.383. This was 1.825 seconds faster than second placed Klein. Would this be enough to see him keep pole?

The next group was Karthikeyan, Heidfeld, Monteiro, Webber, and Sato. The Jordan driver would start his lap and was 1.1 seconds off the pace after sector one. The rest of his lap would see him lose more time to finish with a time of 1m:23.583 to move into fourth and at least ahead of the two Minardi's. Now it was the first of the BMW WilliamsF1 drivers with Nick Heidfeld starting his lap. He was 0.4 behind Montoya after the first sector. The second would see him a further second down. He would finish his lap with a time of 1m:22.117 to be second but some 1.735 seconds off Montoya's time.

HeidfeldThe second Jordan of Monteiro was out and would immediately return to his pit. After having had to change his engine on Friday he has decided not to set a time. Now the second FW27, that of Mark Webber. Mark would start his flying lap and was 0.5 down on Montoya after sector one. This was just slightly slower than Nick's time. He was 0.8 down on Montoya after sector two but 0.2 ahead of Nick. The final sector would see Mark set a time of 20.7 seconds to complete his lap with a time of 1m:21.997 to move into second and just ahead of Nick. The final driver of this group Sato started his lap. He would be faster than both WilliamsF1 drivers, finishing his lap with a time of 1m:21.114 to move into second.

The next group would see Coulthard lead out Barrichello, Villeneuve, Ralf Schumacher, and Fisichella. David would start his lap and was 0.4 down after sector one. But he was 0.8 down in sector two. The final sector would see him lose another half a second to finish with a time of 1m:22.108 to be fourth splitting the two FW27's. Now it was Ruben's turn. The Ferrari would start his lap and would match Montoya in sector one. He was just 0.190 down after sector two. The final sector would see him lose 0.3 to complete his lap with a time of 1m:20.906 to go second fastest.

Jacques Villeneuve was next out. The Sauber driver was 0.6 down after sector one. But the rest of his lap would see him post a time good enough for fourth, a 1m:21.352. This was over a second faster than his team-mate Massa. Ralf
Schumacher would start his lap and was off Montoya's pace in sector one. With his lap complete Ralf was in fourth with a time of 1m:21.191. The final driver of this group was Fisichella. The Italian would start his lap and was fastest in sector one but he would lose time in sector two and three to finish with a time of 1m:21.101 to be third.

The final group would see Trulli first followed by Button, Michael Schumacher, Raikkonen, and Alonso. Despite what place he achieves Kimi will have to lose ten places off this come the start of the race. Very frustrating for the Finn. The Toyota of Trulli would start its lap and Jarno was just 0.030 down after sector one. He would lose a faction in sector two and would complete his lap with the fastest final sector to give him a time of 1m:20.459 to be just 0.077 behind Montoya.

Local hero Jenson Button was just 0.2 down after sector one. He would set the fastest time in the middle sector a 34.4, and the final sector, 20.2, to take provisional pole with a time of 1m:20.207. All this in front of his home crowd. Now it was Michael's turn. After sector one Michael was just 0.001 down on Jenson. But after a slow final two sectors would only set a time good enough for eighth, a 1m:21.275.

Now it was Kimi's turn. The Finn would be quickest in the opening sector by 0.4 seconds. After sector two Kimi was 0.368 seconds ahead of Button. He would complete his lap with a stunning time of 1m:19.932 to be 0.275 seconds ahead of Jenson. It looked like Kimi was making a point knowing full well that he is going to lose ten places on the grid. Alonso was just 0.1 down on Kimi. He would be fastest in the second and would complete his lap with a time of 1m:19.905 to be 0.027 ahead of Kimi. This would mean that the McLaren would start from eleventh while Jenson will start from second.
