German GP Saturday 2nd Practice

In a session that saw lower temperatures those teams using Michelin tyres were at a disadvantage, with only two of the top six times set during Saturday practice going to Michelin runners. Those two Michelin drivers were the BMW WilliamsF1 pair of Ralf Schumacher and Juan Pablo Montoya.

Ralf SchumacherRalf would set his time late in the session with a best lap time of 1m:15.154, but this was six tenths behind his brother Michael Schumacher who continued his domination in the final practice session. For Juan Pablo he was almost a second off the pace making his prospects for qualifying not looking very good.

Michael was the only driver able to set a time in the 1m:14 secs, with a stunning time of 1m:14.487. His team-mate Barrichello was not able to take part in the session as his car was damaged from the earlier session and he was not able to make use of the teams T-car. He would drop to third based on his earlier time.

Again the Saubers were showing good form with Nick Heidfeld and Felipe Massa taking the fifth and sixth fastest respectively ahead of Giancarlo Fisichella in the Jordan Honda. Mika Salo was eighth fastest in his Toyota, with McNish just two places back.

After their encouraging run in France the McLaren team found the going difficult in Germany. David Coulthard was just ninth, while team-mate Kimi Raikkonen was twelfth. Raikkonen's only moment was a broken front wing in the closing moments of the session after clipping a corner marker.

Practice PitstopAfter a disappointing time to this point the Renault team was able to set some reasonable times with Jarno Trulli eleventh, but team-mate Jenson Button saw his session disappear as he waited for an engine change to be completed and only came out with six minutes remaining seeing him drop to twentieth.

Exhaust problems would limit Jordan's Takuma Sato time on the track but he would set the thirteenth fastest time ahead of fellow Honda runner Olivier Panis.
Jaguar's Eddie Irvine was fifteenth fastest ahead of Jacques Villeneuve, Heinz-Harald Frentzen, Pedro de la Rosa and Enrique Bernoldi.

Again the Minardi's were the last two drivers with Mark Webber ahead of Alex Yoong. Yoong had problems with his car been stuck in gear as he toured back to the pits.
