The Vodafone McLaren Mercedes formula one team have placed an appeal to try to and overturn the race stewards decision to not penalize BMW and Williams for using illegal fuel during the Brazilian Grand Prix. The two teams were found to be using fuel which was under 10 degrees Celsius lower than the ambient temperature at the circuit.

Both Williams and BMW Sauber were found to be using illegal fuel at last weekends Brazilian grand prix; the teams were using fuel that was over ten degrees Celsius cooler than the ambient temperature at the event.

The BMW Sauber team's drivers Nick Heidfeld and Robert Kubica's fuel temperatures were 13-14 degrees celsius cooler than the ambient temperature, something which is forbidden by the international sporting code. Williams drivers Nico Rosberg and Kazuki Nakajima's fuel temperatures were found to be 2 degrees cooler than the regulations allow.

It emerged yesterday that the McLaren team are to appeal the decision made by the race stewards. If the appeal is accepted and the results for the Brazilian Grand Prix are changed, Lewis Hamilton could find himself to be the world champion.

However the McLaren team have insisted that their perpose of appealing the descision is not to win back the world title for Lewis Hamilton in the courts.

"It's not about our team winning the world title by default: we just want to obtain clarification on the rules and that's in the interest of all teams," Said Mercedes Motorsport director Norbet Haug in a press statement earlier this week.

Meanwhile Lewis Hamilton has expressed that he doesn't win his first title this year in the courts. "I want to win the title on the race track." Hamilton told the BBC
