Another frustrating GP

Despite a decent qualifying effort yesterday and a good start today, neither Scuderia Toro Rosso would last the distance at Silverstone. Scott Speed would suffer suspension damage from a 'get togeather" with Williams driver Alex Wurz and Vitantionio Liuzzi would have yet another gearbox issue.

Scott Speed would run fairly well for the first half of the race, getting a high as tenth at one point. While battling Wurz and Trulli around mid-race, Scott moved over to alow race leader Alonso through, opening the door for Wurz to make a move for position - or, at least, that is how Wurz saw it.

"I got a good start and after that it was unfortunate that I did not get ahead of Trulli in the pit stops as that would have made our race for us," the American said. "Then it all came to a quick end as we were letting the leaders by. It was certainly a bit of a complicated incident, because I knew that for about half a lap the leaders were quite close behind us, but Alex wasn't letting them by. When I did, I knew that me Alex and Trulli were so close I decided to let Fernando by at the same point as it would have been foolish to hold the race leader up for so long. As we went into the next corner, really tight together, Alex decided to take a very optimistic move down the inside but he couldn't hold it and ran wide into me. I didn't see Alex until we were in the corner. I went narrow to try and protect my position because I didn't want to brake late and run into the back of Fernando. "

Liuzzi was now the torch-bearer for STR, but his day had already begun to unravel, and it would only get worse. He would be forced to retire with only six laps remaining. "Yet another retirement through a mechanical failure with the gearbox. We need to work on reliability as this is our main problem at the moment. I had problems from about lap 15 onwards as something got stuck between my back and my seat, so it was really uncomfortable to drive, especially as this is a high speed circuit so it was very painful. That meant I was unable to push as hard as I wanted because of the pain. I also had a lot of understeer right from the start."

Afterwards, it fell to Team Principal Franz Tost to shift the team's attention away from today's dissapointment and on to this upcomming week's busy schedule. "We had a reasonable opening lap, with Scott comming up to twelfth and Tonio in fifteenth. Then they were both overtaken by Rosberg and Massa after his pit stop. Scott collided with Wurz which put him out of the race. Tonio did not finish because of a gearbox problem. Next week we have a three day test in Spa, where we will have some updates which we hope can help us run at a more competitive pace."
