On day 3 of what was ment to be the final test McLaren rookie Lewis Hamilton set the fastest time of 1m35.918s while rain came in towards the afternoon hampering most teams chances of completing there test programmes.
There was a stroke of luck for McLaren and Hamilton today as he managed to make the most of the dry track completing 52 laps. The track itself took an overnight soaking before partialy drying out before the rain hit again towards the afternoon, demolishing most teams planned testing programmes for the day. Running behind Lewis was Red Bulls Mark Webber carrying on Davids form from yesturday while Ralf Schumacher had an encouraging day for Toyota, setting the 3rd fastest time. Just behind him was the Toro Rosso of Liuzzi which was the best time of all 3 sessions for him and his first appearence at the top end of the time sheets this year.
Felipe Massa took control of the Ferrari who worked on set up work for both dry and wet conditions. Will it rain next sunday?? Nico Rosberg lead a good run focusing on brake, aero and cooling tests in 6th. A better day for the Honda works team as Jenson Button in the updated RA107 made good use of the variable conditions completing 92 laps more than anyone else over the 3 days. Anthony Davidson came next in the SA07-02 focusing on set up work and making sure he got to know the car more and studying the Bridgestone tires. Super Aguris normal programme was interupted by the rain.
Nick Heidfelds running in the dry was halted with an oil leak which took 4 hours to complete. The leak also caused a fire which caused body work to be damaged, once the work had been done the rain came in and stopped Bmws programe in its tracks, coming in a lowly 9th. The ING Renault F1 team didnt complete much running either as parts for there new car failed to turn up Hekki completed just 20 laps overall. Teams have agreed to extend testing to friday to complete work after the downpour stopped most teams finishing there revised programmes.
