With 13 wins out of 15 so far for the season Ferrari can look back already with immense satisfaction about the way the 2002 season has gone in their favour. But Sporting Director Jean Todt knows as well as anyone that winning cycles do always come to an end, but that is not to say they won’t be trying to break that cycle and keep the winning going for as long as they possibly can.

“At the moment, our dominance is due to several different factors,” said Todt. “We have a very strong team, fantastic drivers and great technical partners, especially Bridgestone who have provided us with great tyres. These cycles always happen and after many hard times for Ferrari, we are now winning. We know it will not last forever but we will continue to try and keep winning.”

Earlier in the press conference Michael Schumacher has told the media to ask Jean about his race strategy and naturally they jumped at the chance to do so. Todt was keen to talk about the Scuderia’s objectives from the start of the season until now. But at this stage of the weekend it would be impossible for Todt to state what strategy the team would run until after Saturday’s qualifying session. Rubens Barrichello will however start Saturday with a new chassis after his practice crash today. The damage was not too severe but the team will be sending the car back to Maranello for further examination.

“At the start of the season, we had two objectives,” recalled the Frenchman. “To win the manufacturers’ and the drivers’ championships. In the early part of the season, Michael had the better chance, so the team helped him to get it. Now, we still want Rubens to be second. It is true that if Michael wins on Sunday then Rubens will second, but there are several other possible scenarios. So we will make a decision about how to run the race after we see the result of qualifying.”
