Michael Schumacher could be stripped of his controversial Austrian Grand Prix victory and awarded second place instead, according to the German magazine Auto, Motor und Sport. But as usual this is just a rumour as the FIA have yet to meet.

Auto, Motor und Sport quoted sources from the sport's governing body, the FIA, who said Schumacher's Ferrari team-mate Rubens Barrichello would be awarded the win. The magazine claims the FIA world council intends to base the result on the penultimate lap of the 12 May race, when Barrichello was leading comfortably.

The council will hold a hearing into the incident in 26 June in Paris. Schumacher's spokeswoman, Sabine Kehm, said the driver and his team had nothing to say about the magazine's report. "We can't comment on every rumour that comes along," Kehm said.

An unnamed FIA official also told the German sports agency SID that no one from his organisation could confirm or deny Schumacher would be stripped of the title.

"No FIA official can say something like that now, because it will all be decided at the council meeting," he said. "It's hard to say what will happen, but it's impossible to make statements like that today."

Michael Schumacher has stated that Ferrari will never do what they did in Austria again, but Ferrari have refused to rule out using "team orders" in the future. Several other teams, including Williams and Jordan, have admitted they have also told drivers not to attack team-mates, or to let them pass in order to benefit the team.
