Michael Schumacher was quickest in the final free practice session this morning. The German lapped the newly modified track in 1’30”658, the only driver to drop under the 1m 31s barrier. His Ferrari team mate was third, Rubens Barrichello lapping in 1’31”332.

The Ferrari duo completed 42 laps, 22 for Michael Schumacher and 20 for Rubens Barrichello and both men used just one set of tyres each. Both cars were fitted with the new design of engine cover. While most of the work was aimed at this afternoon’s qualifying session, some of the one and half hours was dedicated to race work.
Changes were limited to trying various mechanical and aerodynamic settings. Both Schumacher and Barrichello feel reasonably confident for this afternoon. It was interesting to note that some non-Bridgestone runners, particularly the Williams duo, appeared to be doing a lot of laps to scrub in tyres, which might be a way of improving their performance.
