A brilliant race at Silverstone with drama right from the off as Rubens Barrichello’s second place on the grid is lost when his Ferrari stalls on the grid prior to the formation lap relegating the Brazilian to the back of the grid for the start. The start of the race would see no real problems for all the drivers getting round turn 1 intact with Michael Schumacher settling in behind Montoya and waiting for his moment of attack. As the pace settled down it was clear that the Ferrari was being held up by the Williams but Montoya was once again proving very defensive and quite a risky proposition for Michael to attempt a pass on. On a few occasions Michael got alongside the Colombian forcing him into some errors but Michael could not make the move stick.

Meanwhile Rubens Barrichello was taking no prisoners as he scythes through the tailenders making up for lost time. But the race was about to turn on its head when the skies opened up and down came the rain. A light drizzle turning gradually heavier had all the driver scrambling to the pits and it was a very cautious Michael Schumacher who was in first nearly losing a place to Raikkonen as he took care before pitting. And with the intermediate Bridgestones the race was now firmly in Ferrari’s hand and that’s the way it proved as both Michael and Rubens lapped faster than anyone on the track and soon it was a Ferrari 1-2 despite a Barrichello spin as the rain fell heavier.

As Ferrari sailed along, things were not so good for their rivals McLaren and Williams. Quite what McLaren were doing with their drivers is anyone’s guess as Coulthard failed to pit for wet tyres and then cut some grass on numerous occasions. They then ruined Raikkonen’s race by bringing him in too early for slicks and then having to call him back in for wets once more. Williams were not as bad but still failing their fans as once again they make a mess of a routine stop for Ralf Schumacher having to send back out with no fuel.

The rain was soon to ease and the dry tyres were back out and that spin earlier for Barrichello would come back to haunt him as he loses second place to Montoya who is also making up for lost time. Barrichello seemed to be caught by surprise at the Montoya move and although he fought hard to regain the position he had to accept third place for now. With 16 laps to go Michael has changed back to slicks and is about 15 seconds ahead of Montoya who is still feeling the pressure from Montoya.

And Montoya could no longer hold the superior Ferrari behind him as Barrichello sweeps alongside him on the pit straight and moves into second place. Worryingly though Montoya once again shows his sour grapes at being passed and attempts a very sneaky and dangerous wheel tap on Rubens, once again this attitude shows the Colombian to be no friend of the sport. So with 10 laps to go the Ferrari 1-2 is once again back in place with Schumacher comfortably leading the race.

And that was it, Schumacher reeled of the remaining laps with his usual slowdown and preserve the car, while Barrichello put in the fastest lap of the race with 4 to go once again showing the dominance Ferrari has this weekend. So another 10 points for Michael and another 16 for Ferrari as they simply crush their opposition time and time again.

Michael once again prasies the team for all their work over the weekend as he speaks to the pit-wall via the radio. Schumacher thanking Ross Brawn for his decisions on the tyres feeling that he would have went a different way with the decision and maybe lost the race.
