While the entire Ferrari team was delighted with Ferrari’s British Grand Prix win, it was a bit more special for Ross Brawn, given that it is the Technical Director’s home race.

“This really is an amazing season for us, with so many great results, like this one today. All races are tough, but Michael is particularly good at finishing races when the conditions are difficult and this is very important,” said Ross Brawn. “Our collaboration with Bridgestone is also a key factor. The car is really good and with these tyres and two great drivers, the package is practically perfect.”

Brawn felt that the confusion which affected some teams during the pit stops is understandable. “Both McLaren and Williams had problems today, but you have to bear in mind that in a race things happen very fast and that can lead to some confusion.” Brawn went on to explain the importance of pit stop practice. “We do between 10 and 20 pit stops during our weekly test sessions. Add these to the number of times we usually try them during a race weekend and that makes a lot, especially when you multiply it by 17.”

Brawn also explained the thinking behind Ferrari’s three stop strategy. When it started to rain, we spoke on the radio with both drivers. We could have opted for two stops, but the intermediate tyres would have been very worn and we felt it better to go for an extra stop.”

“We have to thank all the lads in the team who really did a great job today,” concluded Ferrari’s Technical Director. “We can count on them in those vital moments when it gets hectic.”
