The second Friday practice for the 2011 Italian Grand Prix would see AT&T Williams F1 drivers Rubens Barrichello and Pastor Maldonado finish in fifteenth and sixteenth. It was an uneventful session for both drivers with the team seeming to complete longer runs of the softer tyre. But both drivers would be over two seconds off the pace.

After seeing their drivers finish in thirteenth and fifteenth the AT&T Williams F1 team would be looking to improve in the second Friday practice for the 2011 Italian Grand Prix. With the start of the session it would be Perez and Kovalainen first out in their Sauber and Lotus cars. For Williams Pastor Maldonado would be first out followed shortly after by Rubens Barrichello. Alguersuari would set a 1m:28.705 followed by Perez and Kovalainen. Buemi was fourth with a 1m:32.493. This would become fifth as Petrov went fastest with a 1m:27.236. Perez would go fastest with a 1m:26.760 while Pastor would move into fourth with a 1m:28.922. Kobayashi was now third, 1m:27.693, from Alguersuari and Buemi.

Pastor was now sixth while Rubens moved up to seventh with a 1m:30.488. He would rop to ninth while Pastor moved up to fourth with a lap time of 1m:27.598. Perez had improved with a 1m:26.594 but he would be passed by Hamilton with a time of 1m:26.507. Senna was now up to fourth, 1m:27.379, with Pastor now fifth. Rubens had dropped to thirteenth. Of the big teams only Ferrari had yet to come out while for Torro Rosso Buemi would go off at the Parabolica running wide hitting the tyre barrier and badly damaging his car. Pastor was still fifth from Kobayashi, Sutil, Webber, Di Resta and Alguersuari in tenth. Rubens had pitted as Button moved from tenth to first with a time of 1m:25.905. Webber would follow Button to the top of the times going second with a 1m:26.066.

Pastor would drop to eighth as we had Sutil and Di Resta in sixth and seventh. Rubens had dropped to fifteenth while Vettel would move up to third with a time of 1m:26.161. Hamilton was now fourth from Perez and Petrov. Pastor had also pitted while on his next lap Vettel would go fastest with a 1m:25.635. Webber was now second with a 1m:25.841. Both Ferrari's were on the track with Massa now fourth, 1m:26.187, but team-mate Alonso would
take this spot with a 1m:26.104. Webber and Button had pitted as Massa moved into second with a 1m:25.688. Vettel had improved with a 1m:25.510 with close to twenty minutes of the session run. A further improvement from Vettel with a 1m:25.134. Rubens would come back out as Vettel set a 1m:24.866. Alonso was now second, 1m:25.561, from Massa, Webber, Button, Hamilton, Perez, Petrov, Sutil, and Di Resta in tenth. For Williams
Patrick head was out on the pit wall watching proceedings.

Pastor was now in eleventh and Rubens seventeenth. Rubens would improve with a 1m:27.967 to be fourteenth while Pastor's time was a 1m:27.258. Pastor had also left the pit lane while the top six cars were all in their pits. Perez was now sixth, 1m:26.309, Pastor had dropped to thirteenth and Rubens fifteenth as Rubens pitted. Rosberg had yet to set a time with his car in parts in his garage. Fifth placed Button was back out joined by more drivers with the track very busy. Senna had moved up to eighth with a 1m:26.662. Schumacher was
down in sixteenth but he would improve with a 1m:27.423 to be fourteenth. Webber would leave the pits followed by Vettel. Massa would be the first of the Ferrari's to come back out while Hamilton would also come out. Rubens was also out on the track, currently in sixteenth. Rubens was still sixteenth with an improved time of 1m:27.472. With the drivers still using the harder medium tyre Alonso was also out on the track.

Webber would move into second with a 1m:25.545 but Hamilton was on a quicker lap, fastest in sector two, finishing with a 1m:25.284 to be second. Alonso and Massa were in fourth and fifth. Hamilton would pit as Perez moved up to fifth, 1m:25.675, running on the soft tyre. Rosberg was finally on the track running on the soft tyre. Drivers would start to come out on the soft tyre with Alguersuari moving up to eighth with a 1m:25.758. Perez's next lap would see him third with a 1m:25.347, compared to Vettel's quickest time with a 1m:24.862. Schumacher would use the soft tyres to good effect moving to the top of the times with a 1m:24.816. Rubens would talk on his radio saying that the rear of his car was moving too much. Senna was on the soft tyre setting a 1m:25.600 to be seventh. Pastor and Rubens weer now fifteenth and sixteenth. Schumacher was on a quicker lap setting a 1m:24.347 to remain fastest.

Senna was now fifth with a 1m:25.325. Petrov was now sixth, 1m:25.450, from Webber, Alonso, Massa, and Alguersuari in tenth. Both Williams cars were back out with Pastor on the soft tyres. Massa was out on the softer tyre joined by Pastor and Rubens. Massa would improve to now be third with a 1m:24.908, but on his next lap would set a 1m:24.366 to be second. Di Resta had moved up to tenth Pastor would improve to now be thirteenth, 1m:26.353, as Hamilton came out on the softer tyre. Rubens would take this spot with a 1m:26.202 with Pastor now fourteenth. We now had both Red Bull and McLaren's out on the track with just over thirty minutes left in the session. Sutil would move into thirteenth, 1m:25.855, as both Williams drivers pitted. Vettel was on a quicker lap but failed to improve as Hamilton completed his lap setting a 1m:24.046 to be fastest. Button was now fourth, 1m:24.792, from Vettel. But Vettel would put in a quick lap setting a 1m:24.189 to be second, 0.143 behind Hamilton. team-mate Webber was down in eighth, 1m:25.392.

Hamilton's next lap was even better going faster in the middle sector. but he would pit aborting his lap after been blocked by Alguersuari. Alonso would finish with a 1m:24.739 to be sixth. Vettel was now fastest with a 1m:24.010 from Hamilton and Schumacher. Webber was up to sixth, 1m:24.540, but his next lap would see him fifth with a 1m:24.468. Massa was now fourth while for Williams Rubens was back out on the track. He would pit while Pastor would return to the track. After a quick stop Rubens was back out as Alonso moved up to fifth, 1m:24.433. Perez and Kobayashi were now in eighth and ninth. For Williams Rubens and Pastor were in fifteenth and sixteenth. Both Red Bull cars were in their pits as Pastor appeared to be on a heavier fuel run on the soft tyre. Both Renault cars were running together with Senna and Petrov tenth and eleventh.

With fifteen minutes remaining Vettel was fastest from Hamilton, Schumacher, Massa, Alonso, Webber, Button, Perez, Kobayashi, and Senna in tenth. Hamilton was back out along with most of the field. Ricciardo had yet to set a time with his HRT team still working on an electrical problem with his car. With eleven minutes remaining there were only three cars still in their pits. Senna pitting would make it four. Rubens and Pastor were fifteenth and sixteenth with times of 1m:26.202 and 1m:26.353. Senna's stop would be brief as we now only had Ricciardo still in his pit. Alonso would pit briefly doing a time loss test, while Alguersuari had pitted. With six minutes to go in the session Schumacher would pit as the teams carried out longer runs on heavier fuel. Hamilton would also pit briefly as Perez came in. Vettel's times in these runs were consistently ahead of the other drivers. Perez had returned to the track as Ricciardo finally go out onto the track setting a 1m:29.841. The session would end with both Williams drivers remaining in the same positions, fifteenth and
sixteenth.

Vettel would remain fastest from Hamilton, Schumacher, Massa, Alonso, Webber, Button, Perez, Kobayashi, and Senna in tenth. Both Williams drivers continued to be off the pace but at least they had improved to be just over two seconds slower rather than the three seconds of the first session. But still a long way to go in terms of finding the pace to get into the top ten.

Williams need Bruno in the other car next year. Bin the old man, he's had his chance. Senna is showing well against Petrov who has beaten Heidi this year. Let's not forget that Senna has had very limited experience in the Renault.

It's a golden chance for Williams to secure a driver with a future in F1 (unlike Pasta or Ruby) and one who can bring some serious sponsorship cash and worthwhile publicity as well.

I appreciate the thoughts around Uncle Ayrton and Williams but I think Bruno can see over this.

Hell if Senna was in the car, I might wear a Williams cap again which I haven't done since Montoya left. Same goes for Kubica.

Sutil, Ruby etc. etc. will be a sign that Williams is intent on securing it's place at the back of the grid.
