The second Friday practice session for the 2013 British GP would see both Williams F1 drivers finish well down the times with Valtteri Bottas 16th and Pastor Maldonado 17th. Not where the team would hope they would be.

The weather had improved for the second Friday practice to the point with the drivers coming out on intermediate tyres. There would be a rush of drivers coming out looking to make up for lost time after the earlier wet session. Both Williams drivers Valtteri Bottas and Pastor Maldonado would come out for short runs with Valtteri in fifth with a 1m:43.929 and Pastor down in tenth, 1m:45.307. The start of the session had seen the track declared wet but the track would dry to the point that teams started to come out on the prototype Pirelli hard tyre. Vergne was fastest with a 1m:37.102 running on the slick tyre. Ricciardo was second followed by Di Resta.

Both Williams drivers had pitted after their first runs as Grosjean moved up to third with a 1m:39.269. Both Williams drivers waited in their pits as the times continued to fall. Fastest was now Ricciardo with a 1m:36.502 but Sutil would move ahead with a 1m:36.028. Vergne would move into second followed by Ricciardo. But Di Resta would go quickest with a 1m:35.822. Valtteri was back out currently in twelfth as Sutil went fastest, 1m:35.677. The times were falling rapidly as the track conditions improved. Several of the drivers were using the prototype tyre as Vettel moved up to fourth, 1m:36.388. But team-mate Webber would also find time to go fastest with a 1m:34.648. Pastor was also back out as Valtteri moved up to ninth with a 1m:37.462.

For Massa his session would end when he was to crash at Stowe going into the barriers damaging his first end. Valtteri was on a quicker lap but would lose time in the final sector to remain ninth. Pastor was also on a quicker lap but he would slow in the final sector to remain nineteenth. Valtteri continued to put in laps with both Williams drivers on the hard tyre. Van der Gar was up to eighth, 1m:36.870, seeing Valtteri drop to tenth. With an hour remaining the order was Webber from Sutil, Di Resta, Vergne, Vettel, Ricciardo, Grosjean, Van der Gar, Rosberg, and Valtteri tenth. Alonso and Hamilton were both on the track with Alonso's first time a 1m:39.599 to be fourteenth. Rosberg would find time to go fastest with a 1m:34.327 while Alonso improved to be fourth, 1m:35.167. Other drivers were finding time with Hamilton now second followed by Vergne and Webber now fourth.

Valtteri was now eighth with a 1m:35.573 and Pastor tenth with a 1m:36.311. So at the moment we had a Mercedes one-two while Alonso and Sutil were fifth and sixth. Massa's car had been cleared away while at the front Ricciardo moved into second with a 1m:34.161. Rosberg had also improved his quickest time with a 1m:33.585 as Vergne went second but was quickly passed by Hamilton with a 1m:33.635. But it was changing quickly at the top with Ricciardo going fastest with a 1m:33.550. Grosjean would be the first driver to run on the medium tyre while for Williams Valtteri was tenth and Pastor twelfth. Di Resta and Sutil were fifth and sixth with Sutil on a very quick lap seeing him go quickest with a 1m:33.374. Ricciardo had also improved his time with a 1m:33.501 but remained second. Valtteri had dropped to twelfth and Pastor thirteenth and both were back in their pits.

Vettel would also set new quickest sector times finishing with a 1m:33.068 to be fastest. Grosjean would join Vettel at the front going second with a 1m:33.322. Sutil was now third followed by Ricciardo, Rosberg, Hamilton, Di Resta, Vergne, Webber, and Alonso. Using the medium tyres Vettel would improve with a 1m:32.680 while for Williams Pastor was back out with forty one minutes remaining. Hamilton was now on the medium tyre going second with a 1m:32.911. Team-mate Rosberg would follow Hamilton and would use these tyres to good effect setting a 1m:32.248 to be fastest. Vergne was now up to fourth with the top eight times all set on the medium tyre. Pastor was now thirteenth with a 1m:35.212 with Valtteri now fourteenth.

Ricciardo would also find time with a 1m:33.301 to be fifth with both Williams drivers back out on the track. They were running on the medium tyre and would set a 1m:35.156 but remained thirteenth. After having work completed on his car Webber would come back out running on the medium tyre. Webber was straight onto a quick lap going fastest in sector one followed by two personal best sector times to finish with a 1m:32.953 to be fifth . Di Resta was now in third, 1m:32.832, while Valtteri dropped to fifth as Gutierrez went fourteenth. Pastor would pit followed by Valtteri with both Williams drivers having not improved despite using the medium tyre. Perez would move up to twelfth while for Red Bull Webber would move into second with a 1m:32.547. So Rosberg was still fastest from Webber, Vettel, and Di Resta. Pastor and Valtteri had dropped to fifth and sixteenth.

With thirty minutes remaining the track was very busy with drivers trying to complete longer runs. Both Williams drivers would come back out but for Pastor he would be informed over the radio that there was a slight issue with a water leak on his car. Valtteri was back out on the medium tyre with ten minutes remaining. Both McLaren's were back in their pits while Vettel would pit to move from the hard tyre to the medium. The track was now very busy with everyone except Massa out on the track. As the final minutes counted down both Williams drivers continued to put in laps but they were down in sixteenth seventeenth, not what the Williams team would be hoping for. Rosberg was still fastest from Webber and Vettel. Di Resta was fourth followed by Hamilton, Ricciardo, Vergne, Sutil, Grosjean, and Alonso tenth. The session would come to an end with the positions unchanged.
