Team Summary:
The second Friday practice session for the 2021 Spanish Grand Prix would see
George Russell make his first appearance for Williams. The start of the
session would see a large number of drivers come out all using the medium
tyre. Giovinazzi would set the first time of the session but Bottas and Ocon
would move ahead. Bottas had set a 1m:19.087. Leclerc was now second from
Norris and Ocon. Hamilton would move up to second ahead of Leclerc.
Verstappen would go fastest with a 1m:19.041 followed by Bottas and
Hamilton. The Williams drivers were currently 16th and 18th after their
first flying laps. Ocon was fourth followed by Alonso, Leclerc, Perez,
Tsunoda, Norris, and Sainz tenth. At the front Bottas would go quickest with
a 1m:18.419
Both Mercedes would pit with Bottas still quickest from Hamilton,
Verstappen, Alonso, Ocon, Perez, Gasly, Leclerc, Tsunoda, and Norris now
tenth. The Williams drivers were currently 16th and 18th as they both
continued their medium tyre runs. But with just under forty five minutes
remaining both would pit. They would be joined by most of the field. The
Mercedes and Vettel would be first to come back out on the soft tyre. Bottas
would set a 1m:18.309 but Hamilton would go quicker with a 1m:18.170. Vettel
was now in fourth and Stroll fifth also on the soft tyre. More soft tyre
runs were coming with Norris moving ahead of Stroll into fifth. Gasly would
go third only to see Leclerc move ahead. Ocon was now fourth and Sainz now
fifth. Alonso would move ahead of Sainz and into fifth. Both Williams
drivers were now out on their soft tyre runs. With there runs they would
find themselves 17th and 18th.
Perez was only tenth and Verstappen ninth. We would see the Williams drivers
return running a spli tyre evaluations using the the soft and medium tyres.
Ten minutes remaining in the session the Williams drivers continued their
longer runs. There was a mix of soft and medium tyres been used across the
teams as the session drew to a close. With the end of the session it would
be Hamilton from Bottas, Leclerc, Ocon, Alonso, Gasly, Tsunoda Sainz,
Verstappen and Perez tenth. The Williams drivers would finish in 17th and
18th which was pretty much where based on recent form they would
realistically be.
George Russell:
George would come early in the session running on the medium tyre. He would
set a 1m:27.328 on his first timed lap but would go onto to improve with a
1m:22.233 to be 12th. This would become 18th as others went faster including
his team-mate. George would improve with a 1m:21.736 to remain 18th. He
would pit after a nine lap run. George would come out for a soft tyre run.
He would set a 1m:19.957 to be 15th. He would pit after a three lap run
dropping to 17th. George would return for a longer run on the soft tyre.
George would complete his session with a fourteen lap run.
Nicholas Latifi:
Nicholas would be the last to come out in the session also using the medium
tyre. A late 1m:21.625 would see Nicholas 16th. A 1m:20.926 from Nicholas
would see him 16th again and he would pit after a seven lap run. In the pits
this would become 17th. With thirty two minutes remaining Nicholas would
return on the soft tyre. He would seta 1m:20.415 to be in 17th 0.4 behind
his team-mate. This would become 19th as he dropped behind a Haas. But a
1m:20.046 would see Nicholas move up to 18th. Nicholas would return for
another run on the medium tyre. Nicholas would pit with the end of the
session completing 13 laps on the medium tyre. |
