For the first time the Williams Racing Team would complete a Sprint event at the 2021 Britsh GP. This event would determine the grid for Sundays race. For the Williams Team George Russell would finish in ninth after having started eighth while Nicholas Latifi was 17th after having started 18th. George would lose a few places at the start of the race and would have an incident that saw him and Sainz make contact as the Ferrari driver tried to pass the Williams on the outside. The matter was under investigation and any penalties had yet to be announced.

The Williams Racing Team would see their drivers in eighth and 18th for the start of the Sprint qualifying with George Russell ahead of team-mate Nicholas Latifi. The seventeen laps and how each team and driver will approach it is an unknown as this is the first time this type of event has been held. Hamilton was on pole from Verstappen and Bottas. Leclerc was fourth followed by Perez, Norris, Ricciardo, George, Sainz, and Vettel tenth. With drivers allowed a free tyre choice the question of tyre choice was answered with the Williams pair on the medium tyre. Of the erst of the top ten only Bottas was on the soft the rest the medium. The only other drivers to select the soft were Alonso, Ocon, and Raikkonen.

With the race start it would be Verstappen leading from Hamilton and Bottas. George had dropped to 10th while Nicholas was 16th. Leclerc was fourth followed by a fast starting Alonso in fifth. Norris was sixth followed by Perez, Ricciardo, Vettel and George. George had tapped the rear wheel of Sainz's Ferrari as the Ferrari driver tried to go around the outside. Nicholas was now 1u7th and behind a recovering Sainz. With six laps completed we would see Perez leave the track dropping out of the top ten and would return in 19th. This would see George now 9th and Nicholas 17th. Norris had past Alonso for fifth with the Alpine now sixth followed by Ricciardo, Vettel, George and Ocon tenth.

With ten laps remaining Verstappen was still leading from Hamilton and Bottas. Ricciardo would get past Alonso for sixth on lap ten of seventeen. Lap thirteen and Verstappen was now 2.3s ahead of Hamilton and Bottas. Leclerc was still fourth followed by Norris, Ricciardo, Alonso, Vettel, George and Ocon. Several drivers were complaining about blisters on their tyres. Perez would retire his car on the last lap of the race. With the end of the Sprint Verstappen would win and secure pole for Sundays race. Hamilton was second followed by Bottas, Leclerc, Norris, Ricciardo, Alonso, Vettel, George, and Ocon tenth. The second Williams of Nicholas would finish in 17th. But George would have to see the Stewards in regard to his incident wiht Sainz.
