Massa Steals Pole
In Front Of Alonso's
Home Crowd

Felipe Massa just barely stole pole from home town hero Fernando Alonso, during qualifying for the Spanish Grand Prix this Sunday. Massa played a somewhat low-key role during the first two qualifying sessions. Then in the final seconds of the last session, it looked certain that McLaren's Fernando Alonso was to take pole in front of his home crowd. Felipe Massa however, had other plans. The Brazilian was just able to cross the line, three hundredths of a second faster than Alonso.

Kimi Raikkonen was also strong for the Scuderia, placing third just behind Alonso and also ahead of fourth placed Lewis Hamilton in the other McLaren. Raikkonen was the stronger Ferrari driver throughout Saturday running, though even he lost out when Massa surprised everyone in the final session.
