An understandably downbeat Heinz-Harald Frentzen spoke to the UK TV station ITV1 shortly after retiring from his home Grand Prix. At the time the German was unclear as to what had retired his A23 from the race on lap 22. Louise Goodman (ITV):
“Heinz-Harald, a lot of problems in the brief space of 22 laps. First of all what happened on the grid?”

Heinz-Harald:
“Well the engine just stalled... just stalled.”

LG:
“And then, what put you out of the race ultimately?”

H-H:
“Well we were two laps too late in the race. The race itself was already over, and then we had another problem on the car. We are trying to analyse it at the moment to see what is the problem.”

LG:
“Thanks Heinz-Harald.”

It became clear after the race, in the Arrows press release, that his A23 suffered an hydraulics leak that ultimately made gear changes problematical. This was a real great shame for Frentzen, who could have done with a sound race this weekend to make up for several weeks of uncertainty after an exceptionally strong race at the British Grand Prix. Still, Hungary rewards a smooth style, and maybe Frentzen will find better hunting grounds there in three weeks time.
