Anthony Davidson and Alex Wurz would continue to circulate and they would be joined by Tiago Monteiro in his MF1 Toyota. Alex would set the early quickest time followed by Davidson. Monteiro would pit. The quickest time from 2005 was a 1m:14.277s. Both Davidson and Alex would improve their times as Robert Kubica came back out followed by Winklehock in his MF1 Toyota. Team-mate Albers was also out on the track joined by Jani and Doornbos. Davidson would pit. With fifteen minutes of the session run Doornbos would spin his Red Bull Ferrari. Kubica was now second fastest ahead of Davidson, Doornbos, Winkelhock and Jani. Alex would pit.

Yamamoto would set his first timed lap in the teams new SA06. Team-mate Takuma Sato was also on track. Kubica was now fastest in his BMW Sauber. Davidson was back on track. He would improve to be second fastest. Alex would return to the circuit and move into second. Davidson was now fastest
from Kubica, Wurz, Jani, Doornbos, Winkelhock, Sato and Yamamoto. Scott Speed would come out for the first time. He was joined by Doornbos who would move into third.

With fifteen minutes remaining in the session only eight drivers had completed a timed lap. Button made his first appearance joined by Kubica. Honda team-mate Barrichello was also out on the track.

Button would move into fifth fastest as McLaren's Pedro de la Rosa headed out for his first laps. Barrichello was now seventh fastest as Raikkonen took to the circuit.
