Barcelona Test 28-20:11:2006 Three Days

The WilliamsF1 team conducted a three day test at the Circuit de Catalunya Barcelona running from the 28th through to the 30th of November. The three days of testing would see the driving duties shared by Alex Wurz and Narain Karthikeyan.

WurzThe first day of testing would see light rain fall early in the day but conditions improved later. The day would be spent testing the new 2007 specification Bridgestone tyres as well as testing various car setups.

WilliamsF1 Test Team Manager Mike Condliffe commented: “Alex started our winter testing programme in Barcelona today, with everybody running on the new 2007-spec Bridgestone tyres. We were also testing a new telemetry system today while we also completed a comprehensive front geometry comparison in preparation for next year.”

The second day would again see Alex Wurz behind the steering wheel as the team tested various front wing configurations as well as testing new systems in line with the teams new Toyota engine. It was reported that Alex had a failure of his Toyota engine.

WilliamsF1 Test Team Manager Mike Condliffe commented: “Alex continued testing today and completed more work on front wing comparisons and new front suspension components. Behind the scenes, the telemetry systems continued to be tuned. Tomorrow, Narain will take over the testing programme.”

KarthikeyanThe final day of testing would see Narain Karthikeyan take over from Alex. Narain would further test changes to the front wing as well as testing various new components that will be used in the 2007 FW29. It was reported that of the two red flags during the day, one was caused by Narain.

WilliamsF1 Test Team Manager Mike Condliffe commented: “Narain was driving for the last of the three day test in Barcelona today and started the programme with some bodywork aero comparisons and changes to the front wing. After lunch, we were after Narain's comments on some front geometry changes which we will feed into the FW29 design programme. We have completed useful mileage on several new mechanical components as part of their acceptance programme. Next week we will continue the development work in Jerez.”
