AT&T Williams driver Nico Rosberg was able to finish in sixth after the final practice session for the 2007 Malaysian GP. Team-mate Alex Wurz would finish a disappointing fourteenth, despite the fact that his time was 0.2 faster than his Friday best. Qualifying is again going to be difficult.

Malaysian GP Saturday Practice

After finishing fifth and sixth in Friday's practice at the Sepang circuit the
Williams drivers were a bit unsure as to which direction the team should go on car setup but were hopeful that they would use the Saturday practice to sort out their setup. With the start of the hour long session there was the usual rush of drivers coming out for their installation laps, including both Alex and Nico.

RosbergThe first driver to set a time was Super Aguri's Takuma Sato with a 1m:38.217.
Team-mate Anthony Davidson would move ahead of his team-mate with a 1m:38.092. Both Super Aguri drivers would pit leaving only a handful of drivers on the circuit. Albers and Sutil were in third and fourth but Ralf Schumacher would move into third with a time of 1m:38.541. BMW's Nick Heidfeld would be the next driver to set a time, 1m:36.365, to move to the top of the times. Team-mate Kubica was now fastest, 1m:36.004, with just over forty five minutes remaining. The BMW's were running half a second faster than their Friday times.

Trulli was now third, 1m:37.473. Ralf had improve to split the two Super Aguri's, 1m:38.214, and be in fifth. Massa had left his pit joined by both McLaren's. Both Honda's were also on the track. Button was now in fourth, 1m:37.641. Neither of the Williams drivers had come out as Massa's first timed lap would see him fastest with a 1m:35.524. This was 0.480 ahead of Kubica. Massa's best time of Friday was a 1m:34.972. Hamilton was now in second, 1m:35.693. Alex would leave his pit as Speed and Liuzzi moved into fifth and seventh.

Alonso would put in a quick time that would see him third, 1m:35.703, while Alex's first lap would see him eighth, 1m:37.111. We had yet to see either Raikkonen or Kovalainen take to the track. Massa had improved his time a few tenths, 1m:35.322. Nico was now out on the track. Alex improved his time with a 1m:37.070 but remained in eighth. Both McLaren's would pit. Alex would also come in leaving just a handful of drivers on the track. Nico was on a quick lap and it would move him into seventh, 1m:36.290. With just over thirty minutes left in the session the order was Massa, Hamilton, Alonso, Kubica, Heidfeld, Coulthard, Nico, Speed, Alex, and Trulli in tenth.

It was reported that Kovalainen had a fuel pump problem seeing his mechanics busy at work trying to fix the issue. Both Nico and Alex had pitted. The second Renault of Fisichella was in eleventh. Both BMW's would return to the track. Raikkonen would finally leave the pit lane. Heidfeld would pit. Webber was down the order in seventeenth. Kimi's first lap would see him move into second, 1m:35.498. Again both Ferrari's were showing that they have a considerable performance advantage over their rivals. Hamilton was back out as Raikkonen pitted.

With the engine rules coming into force most drivers were limiting their laps on the circuit. Both Nico and Alex had only completed six laps each. Hamilton was on a quick lap, fastest in sector one and two. With the session winding down drivers would start to look at qualifying simulations. Hamilton was fastest with a 1m:34.811. This was surely a qualifying run with low fuel and new tyres. Hamilton's time was the fastest so far this weekend.

RosbergAlonso was also out on the circuit. Both Williams drivers had also come out. With eighteen minutes remaining about half the grid was out on the track. Nico and Alex were currently in eighth and tenth. Button would push Alex down to eleventh. Both Massa and Alonso were on quick laps. Alonso would move into second with a 1m:35.311. 0.5 seconds behind Hamilton. It did not look like Nico and Alex weer trying a qualifying lap with both putting in a longer run. Massa was now back in second with a 1m:35.175. Kubica was on a quick lap moving up one place and into fourth.

Alex and Nico would both pit with just over ten minutes left in the session. Time enough to complete their qualifying practice run. Kovalainen would finally leave his garage with ten minutes remaining. He would pit after an installation lap. Only three drivers were on the track. Davidson would move into ninth, 1m:36.418. Hamilton was back out joined by Raikkonen. Kovalainen was to have further problems with his car, this time gearbox related. Barrichello was on a quick lap which would see him move into fourteenth. The Honda's continued to struggle.

Now there was a rush of drivers all coming out for their qualifying runs. Both Nico and Alex were back out. Webber would move into eighth. Ralf was now in seventh, 1m:36.245. Nico was able to set a time, 1m:35.770, that would see him in sixth. Alex was down in fourteenth, 1m:36.473. With the end of the session Hamilton was still fastest from Massa and Alonso. Kubica was in fourth followed by Raikkonen, Nico, Heidfeld, Davidson, Ralf Schumacher, Webber, Coulthard, Liuzzi, Fisichella, and Alex in a disappointing fourteenth.
