For the AT&T Williams team it would be a top ten result after opening practice session for the 2007 British Grand Prix. Nico Rosberg and Alex Wurz would finish in fifth and eighth. Both drivers would set their quickest times late in the session and on the softer Bridgestone tyres. Of concern was the fact that Nico's and Alex's times were a considerable margin off the quickest time set by Hamilton.

 British GP Friday 1st Practice

The opening Friday practice for the 2007 British Grand Prix would get underway with the Spyker's first out. Others would follow for their installation lap. After five minutes most of the field had come out but we were yet to see a time. Webber was back out but would suffer damage to the underneath of his car. Nico and Alex had yet to complete an installation lap. ten minutes had been completed and the circuit was empty. It would not be until after twenty minutes that Albers would set the first time which he would improve by almost a second with a 1m:25.928. Alex had taken to the circuit for the first time. Alex would move ahead of Albers while Button also set a time.

RosbergAlex would improve with a 1m:24.485. Trulli was now fastest while Nico and Hamilton took to the track. Trulli would improve, 1m:23.030, to be ahead of Alex by over a second. Hamilton's first lap would see him second but his next one would see him fastest, 1m:22.550. Nico's first lap was a 1m:24.438 to see him third, followed by Ralf Schumacher. Alex had pitted. Davidson was now fifth, 1m:24.479, as Hamilton went even faster with a 1m:22.029. He was 1.001 seconds ahead of Trulli. Alex was sixth followed by Button and Barrichello.

Hamilton went faster again with a 1m:21.828 to now be 1.2 seconds ahead of Trulli. Alonso was now out on the track. Trulli would pit. On his first lap Alonso moved into third with a 1m:23.325. Nico was now in fifth and Alex seventh. Alex was some 2.6 seconds slower than Hamilton. Hamilton would pit after having spun his car exiting Farm. Massa was out on the track as Kubica and Kovalainen moved into seventh and eighth. Kovalainen would improve to be fifth, 1m:23.852. Barrichello was in sixth as Nico pitted. Raikkonen would join Massa out on the track as Alonso went faster than his team-mate with a 1m:21.738. Kubica was now fourth, 1m:23.235.

Alonso would, like his team-mate, improve his time with a 1m:21.681. Kubica would also improve to be third, 1m:23.004. But on his first lap Kimi would move ahead of the BMW driver to be third, 1m:22.574. Nico was now in ninth and Alex twelfth. Alonso would shave a few tenths off his time with a 1m:21.675. Massa was in sixth, 1m:23.037. Fisichella and Sato had yet to set a time. Coulthard and Webber were in tenth and twelfth as both Red Bull's circulated around the circuit. Massa was now fifth, 1m:22.451, after having briefly been fourth only to have Kubica move ahead of him.

WurzAlonso would pit as Webber moved into ninth. Kubica would pit. Both Nico and Alex had returned to the track. Fisichella and Heidfeld had moved into ninth and tenth. Nico and Alex were now in fourteenth and sixteenth places. Massa had moved back into fourth, so we had the two McLaren's leading followed by the two Ferrari's. With Heidfeld moving into sixth we had the two BMW's fifth and sixth. Alex was now fifteenth, 1m:24.155, just 0.09 behind Nico. Alex would move into fourteenth, 1m:24.034, to be ahead of Nico. At the front Kimi had just gone fastest, 1m:21.646. Hamilton was back out. Nico had improved to be twelfth, 1m:23.787. But Alex would again move ahead of Nico, 1m:23.785. Kimi would improve with a 1m:21.522. Joining Kimi at the front would be Massa as he improved to now be second, 1m:21.614.

Alex would pit from thirteenth. Nico would also come back into his pit. Kimi would again lower his time, 1m:21.3888 but Hamilton would fight back moving into second from fourth, 1m:21.529. Button was twenty first. But Massa had other ideas as he went fastest pushing both Raikkonen and Hamilton down
the order, 1m:21.285. Hamilton would pit. Nico and Alex were twelfth and thirteenth. Massa would pit. Kimi was on a longer run staying out on the circuit. With just over thirty minutes remaining only seven drivers were out on the track. Trulli and Schumacher were in seventh and eighth. So we had two Ferrari's, two McLaren's, two BMW's and two Toyota's making up the top eighth. Davidson and Sato were in tenth and eleventh, only to have Kovalainen spoil things by been in ninth.

Now there were only five drivers. Button had improved to be fifteenth. The other English driver Coulthard was in eighteenth. Button was now eleventh, 1m:23.517. Alonso would leave the pit lane. He would be joined by several other drivers including Kubica, Trulli, and Nico. Button had pitted. Alonso was still fourth but Kubica would move into fifth, 1m:22.149. Alonso would have a moment in the final complex ruining what would have been a quick lap. Nico was now twelfth, 1m:23.531. Alex had left his pit. Alex was down in sixteenth, while Nico was on a personal best lap time. He would improve to now be in eleventh, 1m:23.268. Hamilton had joined Alonso.

WurzCoulthard would spin his red Bull into the gravel ending his session. Alonso would go fastest in the first two sectors but would fail to improve losing time in the last. Nico had pitted from eleventh. Sutil would run wide at Copse. Alonso would pit while Hamilton would go fastest in sector two. His lap time would see him move ahead of Massa and to the top of the times, 1m:21.100. Both Ferrari's were back out. Hamilton would pit. Twelve minutes remaining and there were just a handful of drivers on the track. Trulli and Kubica would join them with ten minutes left in the session. Nico was also back out looking to improve on his eleventh.

Trulli would spin but was able to continue. Hamilton was back out while Nico was on a quick lap moving into fifth, 1m:22.006. Alex was also back out on the track joined by a rush of drivers as the session drew to a close. Outside the top four everyone was over a second slower than the quickest time. Nico's time was on the soft tyre. Hamilton was fastest with a 1m:21.100 followed by Kimi, 1m:21.254, and Massa, 1m:21.285. Kimi was till on the harder tyre. Alex was on a quick lap moving into eighth, 1m:22.216. Alex had made up eight places as Nico would pit. Like Nico Alex's time was set on the soft tyres. Alonso would come out with only minutes left. He was on the soft tyre.

Both of the Ferrari's had remained on the harder tyre which must be a worry to the other teams. With the end of the session it would be Hamilton from Raikkonen, Massa, Alonso, Nico, Kubica, Heidfeld, Alex, Schumacher, and Barrichello in tenth.
