 Monza Test 28:08:2007 Day One

The AT&T Williams team would move to the Monza circuit for three days of testing in preparation for the Italian Grand Prix. On a hot and humid day team test driver Kazuki Nakajima was the only driver present as the team tested various new aerodynamic setups. This would include a new McLaren-style bridge wing over the nose. The team would also try the rear wheel covers first used by Ferrari.

NakajimaKazuki would complete ninety eight laps on his day to a fifth fastest time of 1m:25.052. For Kazuki it was the first time that he had driven at the famous Italian circuit. He did have one off-track moment when he was to leave the track at the second chicane. Lucky for him this point of the track had seen the gravel trap replaced with a new asphalt run off area.

In regard to the changes made to the runoff area Kazuki said: "It was quite simple to come back onto the track, but I don't know how much better it is than before because I have never driven here before."

Williams F1 Test Team Manager Dickie Stanford commented on the days testing by saying: "At a very hot and humid Monza circuit, Kazuki opened our three day’s in Italy with evaluation work on the Monza aero package. We ran through day one’s planned test programme with no problems at all. In fact, it’s probably been one of the smoothest and efficient sessions we’ve had so far this year, with Kazuki completing the most number of laps of the session. Alex will be driving
tomorrow so we will spend this evening setting the car up for him."

With the rain expected to interrupt testing the Williams team. amongst others, is making preparations to stay on for an extra day on Friday if it is wet tomorrow.
