Day three of testing for the BMW WilliamsF1 team at the Monza circuit would see Juan Pablo Montoya and Antonio Pizzonia take over the driving duties from Ralf Schumacher and Marc Gene.

PizzoniaAfter two days of rain the team was faced with a dry and sunny circuit for the days testing. The conditions would allow the drivers to put in a large number of laps with the drivers reaching a total mileage of 469.2 kilometres.

Antonio Pizzonia would achieve a personal best lap time of 1m:23.184 good enough for third on the day, after completing forty three laps. Team-mate Juan Pablo Montoya finished the test session with the fourth fastest time with a lap of 1m:23.477, after completing thirty five laps.

The days testing focused on development of the BMW P82 engine, plus new Michelin tyres were tested and further setup work was carried out. Both drivers will return for the final day of testing on Friday.

Fastest driver of the day was Jaguar’s Pedro de la Rosa, clocking a 1:22.757.
Jaguar was able to test new tyre compounds from Michelin designed for the high speed nature of the Monza circuit. Jaguar team-mate Eddie Irvine would finish in ninth but didn't do any running in the afternoon.

Second on the day was McLaren's David Coulthard who also focused on tyre evaluation. The day would see several red flag incidents, with  Honda losing two engines to failures for Fisichella and Panis, and both Renault drivers stalled their cars as well.

Renault Technical Director Mike Gascoyne commented: "Jenson ran a race simulation this morning, although his run was curtailed just short of the end by a minor gearbox problem. As for Jarno, he made progress with set-ups for the race." Trulli and Button would finish the day in twelfth and fourteenth positions.

Rubens Barrichello was present for Ferrari today, but was not able to set competitive times compared to the Michelin runners in front of him in the times, ending in sixth.

For Toyota Alan McNish would finish in fifth while Mika Salo was tenth. McNish focused on qualifying runs in order to get the most out of the new tyre compounds. The team tested some new aero-components set to be used at the Italian Grand Prix.

The only Sauber driver present was Felipe Massa who took thirteenth. The team tried a number of different aerodynamic configurations and did some further work to optimize their traction control.

Minardi's Mark Webber was fifteenth, only 0.3 seconds slower than Button in the Renault. Webber completed sixty six laps in preparation for the Italian GP. Tomorrow team-mateAlex Yoong will be in the car for the second time this week.
