Barcelona Test
25:02:2008 Day One
The opening day of the AT&T Williams teams final test prior to the opening
race in Australia would see Nico Rosberg and Kazuki Nakajima take to the
Circuit de Catalunya for a further three days of testing. Both drivers were
continuing their development of the FW30.
Both
drivers ran with the final of the teams six car liveries. This one was in
preparation for the team to finally unveil the 2008 colour scheme. The
livery was like that of a cut out pattern, with parts of the car to be cut
away to reveal the 2008 colours.
The beginning of the day would see the track wet with the weather was cloudy but dry. This
would see the drivers start the day with intermediate tyres until the track
dried out later in the day.
The team would put in a limited
amount of laps in the morning due to the wet conditions, conditions that
would also cause several red flags in the morning session.
As the
conditions improved both Nico and Kazuki were able to complete scheduled
test work. Kazuki would carry out set-up work, while Nico complete a race distance. Nico
would finish the day with the sixth fastest time while Kazuki was fourth
fastest time narrowly beaten by the two McLarens and one Ferrari.
Williams F1 Test Team Manager Dickie Stanford commented: “This morning’s
rain hampered Kazuki’s running somewhat but drier conditions in the
afternoon allowed him to do some set-up work. Meanwhile, Nico focussed on
engine system checks and successfully completed a race run towards the end
of the day.”.
