AT&T Williams driver Nico Rosberg would finish in an excellent fifth in qualifying for the 2008 Canadian GP. For team-mate Kazuki Nakajima qualifying would not turn out as well finishing the session down in a disappointing twelfth. The session was hampered by poor track conditions with the track breaking up in several sections. Nico has a real chance of producing a good result come Sunday's race.

 Canadian GP Qualifying

With Nico Rosberg finishing fastest in the final practice session the AT&T Williams teams chances in qualifying for the 2008 Canadian Grand Prix were encouraging. Kazuki Nakajima was in fifth, close behind his team-mate.

With the start of the first twenty minute period Sutil would be first out followed by Piquet. Kazuki would join the first group of drivers to come out. Only four drivers would drop out after the period. Both Ferrari's were out early. Piquet was fastest
with a 1m:19.726 followed by Sutil. Glock was now fastest and Fisichella third. Coulthard would move to the top of the times with a 1m:18.995.

RosbergRaikkonen was now fastest with a 1m:18.660. Kazuki was down in ninth but he would move to the top of the times with a 1m:18.299. But on his next lap Raikkonen went fastest, 1m:17.684. Massa was down in fifth. He would move into second with a 1m:17.797. Coulthard was still third. Both McLaren's were out on the track.

Kazuki had pitted while Nico was yet to come out. Hamilton was in fifth, 1m:18.479. Kimi had improved with a 1m:17.301. He had completed three laps on the harder tyre. Kovalainen was now second, 1m:17.681. Nico was now out on the track as Kazuki dropped to sixth. Kazuki was back out for his next run. Alonso had moved in to fifth, 1m:18.177. Hamilton was in eighth. Most drivers were on the harder tyre.

Hamilton was now fastest, 1m:16.909. Trulli was now fifth. Kovalainen would move into second behind his team-mate as Alonso improved to now be in fourth, 1m:17.415.Nico was down in tenth, 1m:18.487, one placed behind Kazuki in ninth. With seven minutes remaining Webber was now sixth, 1m:17.801, with his time set on the softer tyre.

Kubica would go fifth, 1m:17.471, as Kazuki improved to now be sixth, 1m:17.683. Nico had pitted been down in thirteenth. Kazuki would also pit. Heidfeld was in tenth while Massa was seventh. Nico was back out with three minutes left in the period. Massa was on a quick lap but he would only improve to be in sixth, 1m:17.602. Kazuki was now seventh. Nico was now fourteenth.

Trulli would spin at Turn one but was able to quickly continue. Massa was now second, 1m:17.231. Nico had improved to now be in ninth, 1m:17.683. He was behind Kazuki by almost three tenths. The session would end with Kazuki and Nico eighth and ninth. Those not making the cut were Bourdais, Sutil, Fisichella, and Button out. At the front the order was Hamilton from Massa, Kovalainen, Raikkonen, Alonso, Kubica, Webber, Kazuki, Nico, and Trulli in tenth..

NakajimaWith Button having gearbox problems during Q1 the second fifteen minute period would start. Kovalainen was first out on the softer tyre. Nico was also out on the track. Kovalainen would set the first time with a 1m:18.160 but Nico would go faster with a 1m:17.970.

Nico was on the harder tyre. Trulli would pin again this time at Turn six. Raikkonen was third followed by Glock and Hamilton. Kazuki was also out on the track as Glock moved into second, 1m:18.031. Hamilton was now fastest, 1m:17.400, but he was using the softer tyre. Webber was now second, 1m:17.920, But Nico would improve to move up to second with a 1m:17.891. But just as quickly Alonso went second. He was passed by Raikkonen. Webber was in third, 1m:17.819. Nico was now in fifth and would pit.

Kazuki would be twelfth, 1m:18.588. Barrichello was in sixth, 1m:18.020 while Massa went into second, 1m:17.353. Kazuki would pit from fourteenth. Hamilton had improved his time with a 1m:17.034. Kubica was now fourth, 1m:17.679. Nico was now seventh but this would become eighth as Kovalainen moved into fifth, 1m:17.684.

Kazuki would sit in the pit lane with his mechanics waiting to take off the tyre warmers. Raikkonen was now third, 1m:17.590. Kazuki was back out joined by Nico. Raikkonen was on the softer tyre. Nico was still on the harder tyre with the final two minutes counting down. Kazuki was on a quicker lap but would only improve to be twelfth, 1m:18.172. Alonso was now fourth, 1m:17.575. Nico was still in eighth as Webber moved from seventh to fourth. Heidfeld would push Nico down to ninth with a 1m:17.781. Kazuki would improve but remained in twelfth.

So with the end of the period it would be Glock, Kazuki, Coulthard, Trulli, and Piquet who would fail to make the cut. But Webber would have a problem right at the end of qualifying spinning and hitting the wall lightly with his right front tyre. The order was Hamilton from Massa, Raikkonen, Alonso, Webber, Kubica, Kovalainen, Heidfeld, Nico, and Barrichello.

The final period would see both McLaren's out first. Nico was also out on the track as the ten minute period counted down. Hamilton was on the softer tyre, joined by both Ferrari's. Kovalainen would nearly spin at Turn one. Hamilton would go fastest with a 1m:18.721. Raikkonen was third behind Massa. The
track was breaking up badly as it had started to do in the first two periods.

NakajimaNico was in fourth, 1m:19.932. Both Ferrari's had pitted. Hamilton would fail to improve on his next lap. Alonso was now second, 1m:18.971. Nico was in the pits taking on new tyres. Hamilton was again fastest with a 1m:18.510. Kubica was now fourth, 1m:19.432. Kubica was on the harder tyre. Webber was not taking part in the period, seeing him start from tenth on Sunday.

Hamilton would pit as Raikkonen moved into second, 1m:18.735. Nico was on the harder tyre and would move into fourth with two minutes remaining, 1m:19.024. Hamilton was back out on softer tyres. Everyone was out on the track as the final minute started. Massa remained in fifth as Raikkonen went fastest in sector one. Kubica went faster in the same sector. Raikkonen remained second as Kubica went fastest, 1m:18.498.

Nico was down in fifth as he improved his time with a 1m:18.844. But Hamilton would move back up to the top of the times with a 1m:17.866. So the order was Hamilton from Kubica, Raikkonen, Alonso, Nico, Massa, Kovalainen, Heidfeld, Barrichello, and the non starting Webber in tenth. A great job from Nico to finish in fifth putting him ahead of the Ferrari and McLaren of Massa and Kovalainen.

First off well Nico well done williams.
Naka good effort.

I think Nico has a good amout of fuel onboard maybe one of the last to pit stop out of the top 10, unless saftey car changes the rythem of his race plan.

Like you say one tenth and he could of been 3rd on the grid.
The FW30 is coming on song now i think ,but we must push push push.

Nice clean race tomorrow please ,and no RUSH OF BLOOd PLEASE NICO, and he just might end up climbing those steps to glory, again.

Good luck lads.
