Head: accident was unacceptable

For WilliamsF1 Technical Director Patrick Head the only way that he could describe the collision between Ralf Schumacher and Juan Pablo Montoya during the running of the United States Grand Prix was “unacceptable”.

WilliamsF1 drivers accidentAs both Juan Pablo and Ralf entered turn one, side by side, Ralf would spin and the rear wing of his car would hit Montoya's. Both cars would leave the track. Ralf would pit for repairs to replace his rear wing, while Juan Pablo would continue to finish fourth.

Head said: "I'm not into apportioning blame between the two of them. We've had some fantastic drivers in the past but they just haven't driven into each other. It's absolutely ridiculous.

"For the amount of effort that goes into this, to have that happen is completely unacceptable. We'll talk about it afterwards and try to sort out how it doesn't happen again."

On top of this accident came another error, this time on the part of Juan Pablo, which could have seen him finish far better. Juan Pablo would pit too early.

Head added: "He came into the pits for his pit stop when he had lots of fuel on board for many more laps, so why he came in we don't know. We'll have to look at it afterwards.

"Altogether we found the ways of doing it wrong. We should have had a good solid third and fourth here. We did everything to try and not get a podium."
