| New manager at BMW | |
| Heinz Paschen, leading
designer of the successful BMW Formula One engines, has been announced as
the new General Manager of BMW’s F1 engine development in Munich from the
end of the 2002 season. He replaces Dr Werner Laurenz. Paschen entered the BMW F1 project in January 2000 as manager of design and calculation. Before this he had been working for Toyota as the designer of the engine with which Juan Pablo Montoya, one of the current drivers of the BMW WilliamsF1 Team, raced to victories in the US CART series during the 2000 season. BMW Motorsport Director Dr Mario Theissen commented on the changes by saying: “Werner Laurenz did a great job in helping to establish the BMW F1 department and now he looks for new challenges." "Heinz Paschen has been exclusively involved in design and calculation of the V10 engine and is now happy to take over the responsibility of the entire engine development. The fact that we are able to replace Heinz Paschen’s position through internal promotion of personnel underlines the strength and stability that the team has reached.” |
