For the AT&T Williams team the 2010 Chinese GP would see both Rubens Barrichello and Nico Hulkenberg finish way down the order. In a race run under changeable wet weather conditions Rubens would finish in twelfth and Nico fifteenth. Both drivers were involved in an opening lap accident but even with these difficulties they lacked the pace to challenge for any points during the course of the race.
Chinese GP Race Review
The AT&T
Williams team would have a disappointing day with their drivers finishing in
twelfth and fifteenth, with Rubens Barrichello leading home team-mate Nico
Hulkenberg. It was a race where the changeable weather played a major part
in the race with conditions going from wet to day and back to wet during the
course of the race.
Both
Williams drivers would start the race on the softer tyre with the track wet
but not wet enough for an intermediate tyre. but for the Williams team the
start of the race would see both drivers involved in an accident caused by
the spinning Force India of Liuzzi. Liuzzi would spin his car under braking
ending the race for Buemi and Kobayashi. Rubens would also become involved
in the accident seeing him forced to pit.
Team-mate Nico
was lucky to get through the accident but had to run wide to avoid the
debris. The accident would see the Safety Car come out and there was a rush
of drivers coming into change onto intermediate tyres. But the circuit was
not quite wet enough for them and drivers were forced back to the pits to
change tyres. Both Williams drivers would swap onto the harder tyre. But the
rain would start to fall again heavier this time seeing both Williams
drivers pit for intermediate tyres. By the end of the race Rubens would pit
a further time while Nico would pit an additional three times.
Rubens would be
involved in a fight with Alonso during the race but it was only for twelfth.
Rubens was up to seventh by lap twenty but this would be the best he would
achieve. For Nico his race was hampered by the weather with the Williams
driver having pitted taking on slicks only to have the rain start again
forcing him back into the pits. Nico would lose control of his car at the
final turn but was able to continue. The Safety car would again be deployed
as a result of debris on the track and when the race restarted on lap twenty
six there would nearly be a multiple car accident when leader Button slowed
the field down catching those drivers following out.
Both Rubens and
Nico would complete the race but would finish way down the order. The race
was won by McLaren's Jenson Button who made the right decisions in regard to
when to come in to change tyres. It was certainly a race where the end
result was always in doubt with even leader Button making a mistake with a
few as five laps remaining. But for the Williams team it was again a race
where, even with the difficulties in the opening lap, they lacked the pace
to challenge for any points.
