 Hungarian GP Saturday Practice

Despite been someway off the pace of the quickest times both AT&T Williams drivers would come away happy with their performances in Friday practice. Now with Saturday practice the team would see if any overnight improvements would get them closer to the front. Overnight rain had fallen but the practice session would start under sunny conditions. First to come out was Lotus's Kovalainen followed by both Force India cars, both Torro Rosso cars, as well as Vettel, Petrov, and Nico Hulkenberg. More drivers would take to the track including Kubica, Senna, and Massa. Just as quickly the drivers would return to their pits after their installation laps. Rubens Barrichello would also come out and complete his installation lap while Button would be amongst one of the last drivers to come out.

HulkenbergHamilton was the last to come out and would return to his pit. With the track washed clean overnight and with cement dust on the track from oil deposited during a BMW race it was not likely that anyone would be rushing to come out first. With ten minutes of the session complete no one had yet come out to set a time. Di Grassi was first back out followed by Yamamoto. Both Lotus cars would also come out as Di Grassi set a time of 1m:29.866 with Yamamoto on a 1m:30.831. Kovalainen would go fastest with a 1m:27.671. Di Grassi would improve with a 1m:27.831 and Yamamoto a 1m:30.290. Trulli was now fastest with a 1m:27.649 but Kovalainen would improve with a 1m:27.232. Di Grassi set a 1m:27.070 to move to the top of the times.

Nico would leave the pit lane along with both Torro Rosso cars and Liuzzi. Trulli was now fastest with a 1m:26.494 while Webber was also out on the track. Di Grassi was second with a 1m:26.910 while Alguersuari would go fastest with a 1m:25.343. Trulli was second followed by Buemi but Nico would move to the top of the times with a 1m:24.664. Webber would show his pace immediately going fastest with a 1m:23.149 to be 1.5 seconds ahead of Nico. The track was now very busy with Alguersuari and Liuzzi now second and third. Nico was now fourth and Rubens was down in seventh, 1m:25.690. Nico would return to the top of the times with a 1m:22.686, from Webber with Rubens now third, 1m:23.584. But Vettel would set the best lap time with a 1m:21.954.

Webber would also improve to go fastest with a 1m:21.634. Nico was now third from De la Rosa, Schumacher, Kubica, Rubens, Alguersuari, Kobayashi, and Buemi in tenth. Nico would pit while Webber was on another flyer setting a 1m:21.087. Hamilton and Rosberg were in nineteenth and twentieth. Hamilton would improve to now be third, 1m:22.277. Rubens would improve to be fourth, 1m:22.612, to push Nico down to fifth. Kubica would take fourth from Rubens, 1m:22.368, while we now had the Mercedes cars in sixth and eighth with Rosberg leading Schumacher. Webber would pit while Vettel returned to the top of the times with a 1m:20.966.

BarrichelloRubens had also pitted with just under thirty minutes left in the session. Rosberg would improve to now be third with a 1m:22.149. Vettel also improved his quickest time with a 1m:20.261, to be 0.826 ahead of Webber. De la Rosa was now fourth from Massa, Alonso, Hamilton, Kubica, Rubens, and Petrov in tenth. Hamilton was able to move up to third with Button now fourth. Massa and Alonso were seventh and eighth. Nico was back out and currently in twelfth. Alonso would also find time moving up to third with a 1m:21.708. He was 1.4 seconds behind Vettel's time. Vettel would also pit while Rubens was also back out on the track. Rubens and Nico were now in eleventh and twelfth with times of 1m:22.612 and 1m:22.686, to be just hundredths apart.

Liuzzi was stuck in his pit with a drive shaft problem while Webber would come back out while Rubens would improve to now be in eighth with a 1m:21.989. Nico was now in thirteenth. Webber would improve with a 1m:20.327 to now be 0.066 behind Vettel. Alonso was still third from Button, Kubica, Hamilton, Petrov, Massa, Rubens, and Rosberg in tenth. Webber was on a quick lap and would move ahead of Vettel with a 1m:19.940 to now be 0.321 ahead of Vettel. Kubica would improve to now be in fourth, 1m:21.690. Only the two Lotus cars were on the track but Trulli would pit as Button and Alguersuari took to the track running on the super soft tyres. Vettel was also back out on the track along with Hamilton. More drivers would return to the track including both Williams drivers. Button would set a 1m:21.488 as we had only three cars still in the pits. Both Red Bull cars were on quick laps with Webber setting a 1m:19.574 to beat his best time. Vettel's time was a 1m:20.261 to now be 0.087 behind Webber. Hamilton was now fourth from Petrov, Button, Nico, Kubica, and Rubens. Vettel's next lap would see him run into traffic ruining his lap. Nico and Rubens were now in ninth and tenth with times of 1m:21.681 and 1m:21.787.

As the final minutes counted down both Williams cars were on quicker laps while Kubica moved up to fourth, 1m:21.066. Webber would pit still fastest while Massa would jump up to fifth, 1m:21.290. Both Nico and Rubens would improve on their times but would not move up the order. They were now in tenth and eleventh with Nico ahead of Rubens. Their times wee 1m:21.513 and 1m:21.705. Nico had extended the gap to Rubens while with the end of the session it would still be Webber fastest from Vettel, Alonso, Kubica, Massa, Hamilton, Petrov, Rosberg, Button, Nico in tenth and Rubens eleventh. It was another session that Red Bull easily dominated. The Williams team the prospects for qualifying were a bit uncertain with both Nico and Rubens sitting on the cut off zone for the final period.
