For the AT&T Williams team qualifying for the 2010 Hungarian Grand Prix would see Nico Hulkenberg and Rubens Barrichello finish in tenth and twelfth. Their prospects for the race were not that promising as the nature of the circuit will make it difficult to move forward during the race. It would take a good level of luck to see the team come away with a points scoring finish.

 Hungarian GP Qualifying

AT&t Williams drivers Nico Hulkenberg and Rubens Barrichello would finish their final practice in tenth and eleventh so there was a degree of uncertainty as to whether they would both make it into the final period of qualifying. The session would be run under sunny conditions with the opening period commencing. Nico Hulkenberg was told by his engineer that they would go for track position and then hopefully go for a quick lap on lap three or four. Petrov would be first out followed by team-mate Kubica and Nico. Rubens would also come out early along with a rush of other drivers. Webber and Vettel were both out on the track along with most of the field. The last cars to come out were Massa and Buemi.

BarrichelloPetrov would set a 1m:23.386 followed by Kubica with a 1m:27.680. Nico would fo a slow lap of 1m:30.140 to be third. Massa and Buemi would come out making the track very busy. Petrov would set a 1m:22.713 while Webber was now second with a 1m:22.786. Hamilton was now third from Alguersuari while Kubica would go fastest with a 1m:22.309. Nico was now fifth, 1m:22.915, as Vettel went fastest with a 1m:21.360. The medium tyre was the tyre that was been used in the early part of this period. Webber was up to second with a 1m:21.698 followed by Kubica, Rosberg, De la Rosa, Petrov, Hamilton, and Button in eighth. Nico and Rubens were now in ninth and tenth. Alonso would split the Red Bull's moving into second with a 1m:21.672.

Petrov was now fourth from Massa, Kubica, and Rosberg. Hamilton would put in a quick lap going second fastest with a 1m:21.549. Nico would improve to be seventh with a time of 1m:22.169. This would become eighth as Rubens moved up to second with a 1m:21.478. Webber would also improve with a 1m:21.132 to move ahead of Vettel. Rubens was now third from Hamilton and Alonso. Nico was now eighth and back in the pits. Massa would move up to fifth, 1m:21.638, while Webber and Rubens would pit. Nico had been pushed down to ninth as Massa moved up to second, 1m:21.299. Schumacher was down in fifteenth while Vettel would move ahead of Webber with a 1m:20.417. Webber was second
from Massa, Alonso, Rubens, Hamilton, Kubica, Petrov, Nico, and De la Rosa in tenth.

HulkenbergAlguersuari was back out this time on the super soft tyres. His extra pace was seen immediately as he would move up to eighth with a 1m:21.978. Petrov and Nico were both back out along with Kubica and De la Rosa. The top six were all still in their pits with five minutes remaining. Nico was back out on the medium tyre and would improve with a 1m:21.598 to move up to seventh. This would become eighth as Kubica moved up to third, 1m:21.159. Three minutes remaining as Petrov was on a quick lap, fastest in sector one, while Sutil would move up to twelfth. Petrov was now eighth with Nico ninth. Seventh placed Hamilton was back out as Liuzzi moved up to tenth, 1m:21.789.

Hamilton would move up to sixth, 1m:21.455, pushing Rubens down to seventh. Nico would pit currently in ninth. Rosberg would jump up to fourth, 1m:21.212. Team-mate Schumacher was up to twelfth, 1m:21.840, as Button moved up to seventh, 1m:21.422. Rubens was now ninth and Nico eleventh as the period came to an end. Both Williams cars were through into the second period while those not making the cut were Kobayashi, Glock, Kovalainen, Trulli, Di Grassi, Senna, and Yamamoto. The top ten was Vettel from Webber, Kubica, Rosberg, Alonso, Massa, Button, Hamilton, Rubens, and Petrov.
Nico was in eleventh just 0.12 behind Rubens.

BarrichelloAfter the first period the Red Bull drivers were looking very comfortable at the front. For Nico and Rubens the big question would be whether they will make it into the final period. The second period would commence with Massa first out. He was followed by another ten drivers, including both Williams drivers. Massa would set a 1m:21.417 running on the medium tyres. Alguersuari set a 1m:22.212 as Alonso goes fastest with a 1m:21.010. Liuzzi was now third but Nico would take this spot, 1m:21.592, but Petrov would take second with Massa third and Nico fourth. But Webber would go fastest with a 1m:20.235 but was quickly beaten by Vettel with a 1m:19.866. Alonso was third from Petrov, Hamilton, Massa, Nico, De la Rosa, Rubens, and Sutil in tenth.

Kubica was now in fourth, 1m:21.049, as Vettel continued to set a faster time with a 1m:12.573. Button was now in ninth while Nico was tenth and Rubens eleventh. Nico would improve with a 1mn:21.338 to now be eighth. Rubens would also improve running on the softer tyre moving up to eighth, 1m:21.331. He was just 0.007 ahead of Nico. Button would take eighth from Rubens seeing Rubens and Nico in ninth and tenth. It was very close but Nico would drop to eleventh as Rosberg moved up to eighth, 1m:21.296. Nico would pit while Schumacher was down in fourteenth, 1m:21.828.

HulkenbergDrivers were pitting to get ready for their final runs. Alonso was back out joined by Massa. The super soft tyres were on both Ferrari's as Vettel also came out. Nico would be the first of the Williams cars to come back out while Webber would also come out along with Petrov, Hamilton, Rubens, De la Rosa, and Sutil. Buemi would move up to fifteenth, 1m:21.897. Alonso would improve with a 1m:20.237 but remained in third. Only Schumacher was in his pit as we neared the final two minutes in the period. Vettel would go fastest in sector one as Webber would go fastest in sector two. Nico would mistake running wide ruining his lap while Webber would go fastest with a 1m:19.531 while Vettel's time was a 1m:19.573. Nico was back on it moving up to eighth with a 1m:21.275. Rosberg was up to fourth, 1m:20.811, but Petrov would take this spot. Rubens would pit running in twelfth.

Nico was now tenth with Button in eleventh. Kubica would improve to move up to seventh, 1m:20.867. The top ten was Webber from Vettel, Alonso, Petrov, Rosberg, Massa, Kubica, Hamilton, De la Rosa, and Nico in tenth. Those not making the cut were Button, Rubens, Sutil, Schumacher, Buemi, Liuzzi, and Alguersuari. Rubens last lap was spoilt by a lock up early in the lap that would ruin his chances of improving. As for Nico he is certainly performing well out-qualifying his team-mate.

Having used three sets of his softer tyres Nico would have to go out on a used set so his chances of been near the front were slim Alonso would set the first time with a 1m:19.987 with Massa second from Rosberg and Nico, 1m:21.791. Hamilton would move up to third, 1m:20.499, while Alonso would pit. Both Red Bull's were on quick lap as Webber went fastest with a 1m:19.184 while Vettel would go even faster with a 1m:18.773. He would beat Webber by nearly half a second. Webber's lap was now the best with a few small mistakes during his lap.

HulkenbergNico was now seventh with a 1m:21.710 as the drivers pitted and started to return to the track. Petrov, Kubica, and De la Rosa had yet to set a time. Both Ferrari's were back out along with others leaving just the Red Bull's to come out. Webber would come back out first and Vettel would join him shortly after. All ten drivers were now on the track as De la Rosa moved up to seventh, 1m:21.411. Nico was now ninth behind Petrov. Kubica was in tenth while at the front Webber went fastest in sector one. The period would come to an end as Massa moved up to fourth, 1m:20.331. Vettel would beat Webber in sector one while Webber would fail to improve remaining in second. Petrov would move up to seventh as Vettel crossed the line without improving but his first lap was good enough for pole position. Alonso was third from Massa, Hamilton, Rosberg, Petrov, Kubica, De la Rosa, and Nico in tenth.

For the AT&T Williams team their drivers will start the 2010 Hungarian Grand Prix from tenth and twelfth. Their prospects for the race were not that promising as the nature of the circuit will make it difficult to move forward during the race. It would take a good level of luck to see the team come away with a points scoring finish.
