Despite not scoring any points in the final race of the 2010 season, the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, the AT&T Williams team would secure sixth in the Constructors Championship. The season as a whole was not what everyone at Williams was hoping for but it certainly showed that the team is moving in the right direction. Bring on 2011!

 Abu Dhabi GP Race Review

Qualifying for the fifty five lap Abu Dhabi Grand Prix would see AT&T Williams drivers Rubens Barrichello and Nico Hulkenberg finish in seventh and fifteenth. Rubens seventh should allow him to get involved in the action but for Nico his race should be a lot more difficult. At the front the focus was on the championship contenders with Vettel on pole from Hamilton, Alonso, Button and Webber in fifth.

BarrichelloFor the Williams team their battle with Force India in the Constructors championship will be decided in this race. Currently Williams is one point ahead of Force India and sixth in the championship. Hopefully come the end of the race this sixth place will be retained. For the Force India team their drivers Sutil would start from thirteenth and team-mate Liuzzi in sixteenth.

Vettel would move away from pole with the top ten on the softer tyres. He would come back and the grid would form up and the lights would go out and the race would be on with Vettel leading from Hamilton, Button, Alonso, and Webber. Massa was in sixth and Rubens seventh. For Schumacher his race would end in dramatic fashion when he was to spin, after a gentle tough by team-mate Rosberg, and stop only to have the Force India of Liuzzi crash into him and ride up over the Mercedes. This would see the Safety Car deployed while the two damage cars were removed. Lap two would see several cars pit under the Safety Car including Petrov, Rosberg, Senna, and Di Grassi.

Nico was down in fifteenth and Rubens seventh as the Safety Car came in on lap six. Hamilton would run wide to avoid Vettel in the lead-up to the start of the lap as the Safety Car pulled off. Kubica would pass Sutil with Kobayashi in eighth. Nico was now thirteenth while Webber was right behind Alonso. Kobayashi would try and pass Rubens but he would out brake himself and Rubens was able to retake the position. Vettel was now leading by 1.5 seconds with Hamilton second. Webber was not able to pass Alonso but Alonso was slow enough to see Vettel now six seconds ahead of the Ferrari and Red Bull.

HilkenbergLap eight and Rubens was still seventh while Webber would run wide with his right rear brushing the barrier as the tried to close in onto Alonso. Nico would be passed by Rosberg for thirteenth while Webber would make an early pit stop on lap twelve. He would come back out in sixteenth, behind a lot of drivers. Webber had complained that his rear were gone prior to his top. Lap thirteen and Vettel was leading Hamilton and Button while on the next lap Massa would pit. He looked like Ferrari was aiming to see Massa come out in front of Webber, but Massa would have a small problem in his top seeing him come out behind Webber. Lap fifteen and Hamilton was 1.0 seconds behind Vettel as Alonso pitted on lap sixteen. Alonso would come out in front of Webber. Lap seventeen and Nico was tenth while Rubens was fourth but yet to pit.

Lap nineteen and Rubens would pit from fourth. Vettel still leading Hamilton by 2.1 seconds with Button third. Kobayashi was fourth from Kubica, Sutil, Buemi, Rosberg, and Nico in ninth. Petrov was tenth followed by Webber. Rosberg would be a problem for the contenders as he had already made his stop. Rubens had dropped to sixteenth after his pit stop while Alonso was right behind Petrov looking to pass. Lap twenty two and Vettel was now leading by 1.8 seconds but the main interest was with Petrov and Alonso with Webber following. Alonso would have a moment with Petrov that saw the Ferrari run wide in order to avoid the rear of the Renault, while on lap twenty four Hamilton would pit.

HulkenbergVettel was told to give it everything he had got as Vettel pitted on alp twenty five. Button was now leading while Vettel returned out in front of Hamilton. Vettel was out in front of Kobayashi and Kubica with Hamilton behind this pair. Kubica would pass Kobayashi seeing Hamilton now behind the Sauber. Button was leading while down the order Alonso was still behind Petrov. Nico was still ninth but yet to pit with Rubens still sixteenth. Webber had run wide and lost ground to Alonso. Lap twenty six and Vettel was fastest with a 1m:43.564. Button was leading Vettel by 15.7 seconds after lap twenty seven. Hamilton had been able to pass Kobayashi moving into fourth. He would close in on third place Kubica and look to pass.

Lap twenty eight and Alonso was still stuck behind Petrov with Alonso knowing that he must pass both Petrov and Nico and Rosberg. Alonso would run wide but Webber was not close enough to benefit from it. Hamilton continued to attack Kubica as Vettel went fastest on lap thirty with a 1m:43.302. Kubica had yet to pit while Hamilton would say that his front left was really bad. Alonso was struggling to pass Petrov while on lap thirty five Kobayashi would pit. Nico was now in eighth and Rubens fifteenth. Hamilton would run wide in his effort to get pass Kubica. Button was still leading but was yet to pit, while Vettel was now 8.4 seconds behind the McLaren. Webber was right behind Alonso with just twenty laps remaining in the Grand Prix.

BarrichelloNico would pit on lap thirty seven seeing Alonso and Webber move up to ninth and tenth. Lap thirty seven and Vettel would set a new fastest lap with a 1m:42.705 to be just 6.6 seconds behind Button. Buemi would pit on lap thirty eight while Kubica's pace was such that when he pits he will emerge ahead of Petrov and Alonso. The championship fight was really been influenced by other drivers. Rubens was now in thirteenth and Nico sixteenth as on lap forty Button would pit. Vettel would be again in the lead while Button was back out behind the Kubica and Hamilton fight. Sutil was in fifth but yet to pit.

As the laps counted down Vettel was leading Kubica by 12.8 seconds with Hamilton third followed by Button. Sutil was still fifth with Rosberg sixth. Petrov was seventh with Alonso still behind the Renault. Webber was now ninth but 1.8 seconds behind the Ferrari. His title hopes were now finished while Alonso's were not looking much better. Lap forty seven and Kubica would pit seeing Button now third. Kubica would take on the softer tyre and would run wide as he exited the pit lane tunnel. He would still come out in front of Petrov and Alonso. Sutil would pit on lap forty eight while Vettel was leading by 11.4 seconds over Hamilton, with Button third Rosberg fourth, Kubica fifth, ahead of Petrov and Alonso. Sutil had dropped to thirteenth while Rubens was now twelfth. This would see the Williams teams sixth in the Constructors championship looking very safe.

For both Alonso and Webber their races al went wrong when they got stuck behind Petrov. The final laps would count down with Vettel leading and on his way to becoming the 2010 Formula One Drivers championship. Lap fifty three and Petrov, Alonso and Webber would all record their personal best lap times but they would remain in sixth, seventh and eighth. As it stood Vettel would have 256 points and Alonso 252 as Vettel started his final lap. He would cross the line to win the drivers title with Hamilton second and Button third. Rosberg was fourth from Kubica, Petrov, Alonso, Webber, Alguersuari, and Massa in tenth.

For the AT&T Williams team their sixth place in the Constructors Championship would stay intact with, despite neither Rubens or Nico scoring any points, the Force India cars outside the points as well. Williams would finish with sixty nine and Force India sixty eight. The season as a whole was not what everyone at Williams was hoping for but it certainly showed that the team is moving in the right direction.
