Qualifying for the 2011 Canadian Grand Prix would see a disappointing result of the AT&T Williams F1 team. Both drivers would fail to make it into the final period with Pastor Maldonado finishing ahead of team-mate Rubens Barrichello. Pastor was 12th and Rubens 16th. Rubens would suffer a break issue in the second period that did not help things.

After seeing their cars finish in eleventh and sixteenth in the final practice session the AT&T Williams F1 team would prepare for for qualifying for the 2011 Canadian Grand Prix. In qualifying so far Rubens Barrichello and Pastor Maldonado were equal with their results been three all. Now it was down to who would qualify fastest. The opening twenty minute period would commence with the Virgins out first. They would be followed by the Renault's and Trulli. Webber would also come out trying to make up for the time he lost in the final practice session.

D'Ambrosio would set a 1m:25.366 with Glock second, 1m:26.311. Petrov was now second while team-mate Heidfeld would set a more representative time with a 1m:17.120. Rubens, Pastor, Alguersuari, Vettel and Sutil were all now on the track. Petrov would go fastest with a 1m:16.083, while Di Resta would move into second with a 1m:16.596. Webber was in fourth with a 1m:17.257 while Vettel's first lap would see him seventh. For Ferrari Alonso would go fastest with a 1m:14.994. Heidfeld would improve to be second and Massa
third. The times would change rapidly as Vettel went fastest with a 1m:14.703. Heidfeld was now fourth followed by Petrov.

With seven minutes run Schumacher would set a 1m:15.504 to now be in fifth with Vettel fastest from Alonso, Massa, and Heidfeld. Vettel would improve with a 1m:14.318 to extend his lead but Button would make a presence moving into second. Rubens was down in ninth with a 1m:16.391. This would become tenth while Pastor was down in eleventh, 1m:16.450. Again it would change as Alonso went fastest with a 1m:14.227. Hamilton would now move up to be third but Vettel would continue to make it clear that he was fastest setting a 1m:14.011. Massa would take third. Alguersuari would have several off-track moment being down in sixteenth.

The Mercedes of Rosberg and Schumacher were in sixth and seventh. Webber was now down in eighth, 1m:14.979. Again Alonso would go fastest with a 1m:13.822, with just over half the period completed. Hamilton would again be third while Button had dropped to fifth. Webber would improve to be sixth, 1m:14.744. For the Williams team Pastor was down in sixteenth and Rubens up in twelfth with an improved time of 1m:15.815. As the final minutes started to count down Webber would improve to be sixth with a lap of 1m:14.744. Pastor and Rubens would take to the track with the option tyre while the top eight remained in their pits. On his first lap Pastor would not improve as Di Resta moved up to seventh, 1m:14.874.

Pastor would set a 1m:15.585 to move up to twelfth while Rubens was one place behind. Heidfeld and Petrov were in tenth and eleventh as the period drew to a close. Right at the end Kobayashi would improve to be fourteenth. With the end of the period those not making the cut were Alguersuari, Trulli, Kovalainen, Liuzzi, Glock, Karthikeyan, and D'Ambrosio. Alonso was still fastest from Vettel, Massa, Hamilton, Button, Webber, Petrov, Di Resta, and Rosberg. Both D'Ambrosio and Karthikeyan would fail to set a time that met the 107% rule.

The second fifteen minute period would start with both Williams drivers taking part. Pastor would take to the track very early followed by Petrov and de la Rosa. Other drivers would come out including Heidfeld, Rubens, and both Force India cars. Petrov would set the first time with a 1m:14.354 while Pastor could only manage a 1m:17.871. Several of the drivers were out on the option tyre but Pastor was still on the prime tyre for his first runs, joined by Rubens. Maybe Williams was looking to save their super soft tyres. Both Mercedes cars were on the option tyre. Di Resta was now third while Rubens first time was a 1m:21.135.

Webber was on the option tyre and would set a 1m:14.344 to go fastest. Petrov was now second as Button went fastest with a 1m:14.209. But Vettel would stamp his mark going fastest with a 1m:13.690. Now it was Alonso's turn to be fastest with a 1m:13.672. But Webber would also improve with a 1m:13.654 to be fastest. Vettel was now third while Pastor was down in fourteenth and Rubens sixteenth. Rubens would pit to take on the option tyre. Rosberg was now fifth, 1m:13.950, with Button sixth and Schumacher seventh. Kobayashi was now tenth as Vettel again went fastest with a 1m:13.486. Massa was now sixth on the option tyre as Pastor and Rubens dropped to fifteenth and seventeenth.

Massa was on a quick lap setting a 1m:13.431 to be fastest. Rubens was out on the option tyre with six minutes remaining. On his first lap Rubens could only find a very small amount of time to be only sixteenth, 1m:17.336. But Pastor would take this spot with a 1m:16.279, seeing the Williams drivers currently slowest in the period. The top nine drivers were all still in their pits as the final minutes counted down. Heidfeld in in tenth with a 1m:14.719. Kobayashi would take to the grass at Turn eight. He locked up under braking and had no alternative but to take to the grass. He was able to continue as Pastor set a 1m:15.489 to be thirteenth. Rubens would improve to be thirteenth, 1m:15.361 but Buemi would move ahead. Rubens was now fourteenth and Rubens fifteen. On his last run Pastor would move up to twelfth with a 1m:15.043.

Those not making the cut were di Resta, Pastor, Kobayashi, Sutil, Buemi, Rubens, and de la Rosa. The top ten was Massa, Vettel, Webber, Alonso, Hamilton, Rosberg, Schumacher, Button, Petrov, and Heidfeld. Again it would be Pastor who would out qualify his team-mate but again both Williams drivers would fail to make the final period. Even though this will help their allocation of tyres given their pace Sunday's race is going to be a difficult time for both Pastor and Rubens.

FW33

The fight for pole would get underway with Heidfeld first out of the pits for the final ten minutes. Both McLaren's would also come out joined by Webber, Petrov, and Alonso. Massa would also come out while both Mercedes cars remained in their pits. The first lap would be set by Heidfeld with a 1m:15.721 but Hamilton would move to the top of the times with a 1m:13.945. Petrov would move into second but Webber would take this spit with a 1m:15.262.

Alonso's first lap would see him down in seventh, 1m:16.946. His team-mate Massa was now fastest with a 1m:13.820. But Vettel would silence everyone to be fastest with a 1m:13.014. Even team-mate Webber could not match him setting a 1m:13.636 to be second. This was six tenths slower than Vettel. Hamilton was now third as Alonso moved up to second, 1m:13.412, but Massa would take this spot with a 1m:13.292. Vettel would pit while Webber was now fourth followed by Hamilton, Button, Petrov, Heidfeld, and Rosberg in ninth. Rosberg would improve to be sixth, 1m:13.814.

Schumacher would come out for what would be a single run with three minutes remaining. Ferrari had done a race pit stop to change their tyres looking to give their drivers more time on the track. ON their first laps Alonso and Massa would fail to improve. Webber would improve with a 1m:13.429 but remained in fourth. Hamilton would remain in fifth while Vettel's lap would not see him improve but remained fastest. Alonso was now second with a time of 1m:13.199. Massa was now third from Webber, Hamilton, Rosberg, Button, Schumacher, Heidfeld, and Petrov in tenth. So Vettel would take another pole while for the Williams team qualifying would see both Pastor and Rubens off the pace despite all the development work that the team is making to find extra pace from the FW33.
