The final practice session for the 2011 German Grand Prix would see AT&T Williams F1 drivers Pastor Maldonado and Rubens Barrichello finish in tenth and fourteenth. Pastor's effort was encouraging after being off the pace after Friday practice. But whether he will be able to make it into the final period of qualifying is an unknown, even more so if it rains.

After seeing both its drivers well outside the top ten after Friday practice for the 2011 German Grand Prix the AT&T Williams F1 team would be hoping for better results in the Saturday practice. After Friday Rubens Barrichello was down in fourteenth and Pastor Maldonado seventeenth. The conditions were dry but very cold as Kovalainen's car was having major work done on it which may limit his running. With the start of the session there was a rush of drivers coming out with D'Ambrosio and Kobayashi leading the cars out. For the Williams team Rubens would come out quickly followed by Pastor. Last to come out were the two McLaren's. The drivers would just as quickly pit after their installation laps.

While he was travelling around Schumacher was told that he had a KERS error. Kovalainen's problem was confirmed as hydraulic. Last to pit would be Button. The track was now empty but with fifty two minutes remaining D'Ambrosio would come back out. He would be followed by Chandhok and then Liuzzi. D'Ambrosio would set a 1m:46.020 as more drivers took to the track, including Pastor, Heidfeld, Perez, and Kobayashi. A 1m:44.172 from D'Ambrosio as Glock left the pits. A 1m:42.384 from Chandhok as we saw Di Resta and Schumacher take to the track. Pastor was out on the prime tyre as D'Ambrosio set a 1m:42.229 but Kobayashi would go faster with a 1m:41.078.

The times were coming fast as Heidfeld went fastest only to be beaten by Perez, 1m:36.851. Pastor was down in seventh with a 1m:42.366 as Kobayashi set a 1m:36.531 to be fastest from Heidfeld and Perez. Pastor was now up to fourth, 1m:37.588 but both Di Resta and Schumacher would go faster seeing him drop to sixth. Rubens had taken to the track and was eighth, 1m:38.505. Rosberg would move into second, 1m:36.236, with Heidfeld now fastest, 1m:35.881. Buemi was now eighth seeing Rubens drop to ninth. Schumacher would move into second, 1m:35.937, as Kobayashi pitted. Rubens had improved with a 1m:36.913 to be seventh with Pastor now eighth. Rosberg was now fastest with a 1m:34.872 followed by Perez. But Schumacher would take second with lap of 1m:35.494.

Pastor had moved into seventh, 1m:36.651, but he would drop to ninth. Rubens had pitted briefly with Pastor and Rubens dropping to tenth and eleventh. Rosberg was still fastest from Schumacher, 1m:35.255, and Heidfeld. Perez was fourth from Sutil, Di Resta, Buemi, Kobayashi, Alguersuari and Pastor. Schumacher was now fastest with a 1m:34.418 with Sutil now third. Pastor would find time moving into seventh, 1m:36.042, while Rubens was now twelfth. Rosberg would move ahead of his team-mate with a 1m:34.240 as both McLaren's took to the track. Rubens was now tenth, 1m:36.316, as Schumacher pitted. Kovalainen was out on the track and up to thirteenth, 1m:39.047. Alguersuari was now fifth but this would become sixth as Hamilton moved into fourth, 1m:35.267. Massa was now sixth from Button with Alguersuari now eighth.

Petrov should be now fifth, 1m:35.309, as Hamilton went fastest with a 1m:33.694. But Button would move ahead of his team-mate with a 1m:33.646. Both were on the prime tyre as Kobayashi returned to the track and moved into third, 1m:33.803. Alonso was now sixth, 1m:34.453, while for Williams both drivers had pitted with Pastor and Rubens now sixteenth and seventeenth. At the front Perez would go fastest but would be passed by Alonso with a time of 1m:33.302. Vettel was up in sixth, 1m:33.921, from Massa, Rosberg, Schumacher, and Sutil in tenth. Webber would jump up to second with a 1m:33.492. The prime tyre was still in use as Vettel moved to the top of the times with a 1m:33.243 only to be passed by Button with a 1m:33.106. Just as quickly Alonso would go fastest with a 1m:33.099.

Rosberg was on the soft tyre and was on a quick lap moving up to the top of the times with a 1m:31.911. For Williams Rubens was still evaluating the new front wing but the new rear wing had been put aside due to structural issues. Both Pastor and Rubens were back out on the track as we had Rosberg still fastest from Webber and Vettel. Webber had improved with a 1m:32.968 for his second as Rosberg went even faster with a 1m:31.694. Vettel would move ahead of Webber with a 1m:32.878, still on the prime tyre. Rubens and Pastor had dropped to seventeenth and eighteenth with twenty minutes remaining. Alonso was now fourth from Button, Di Resta, and Perez. Schumacher was out on the soft tyre and would move up to third with a lap of 1m:32.912. This would become fourth as Sutil went into second, 1m:32.391, running on the soft tyre.

Joining Sutil at the from Di Resta set a 1m:32.813 to be third. Both Rubens and Pastor would pit as we would see Schumacher back up to third, 1m:32.523. Hamilton was now ninth but would pit. The track was now fairly quite as the drivers prepared for their qualifying practice runs. Alonso would come back out on the soft tyre weaving around trying to get heat into his tyres. He was fastest in sector one while team-mate Massa was on an improved lap. Alonso was fastest in sector two and would complete his lap setting a 1m:31.138 to be fastest. Massa would complete his lap to be fifth, 1m:32.538, also on the soft tyre. More drivers started to come back out with nine minutes remaining as Massa improved with a 1m:32.144 to now be third.

Very quickly the track would become busy as Button was on a quicker lap. Pastor was back out while Button moved into second, 1m:31.623. Team-mate Hamilton was also on an improved lap while Rubens would also take to the track. Hamilton would take second from Button with a 1m:31.578. Webber was also on a quick lap been fastest in sector two. He would move into second with a lap of 1m:31.178. Alonso would pit while Vettel was on a quick lap. Kovalainen would move up to sixteenth while Rubens and Pastor were in eighteenth and nineteenth. Pastor was on a better lap while Vettel move dup to third with a time of 1m:31.463. Pastor would finish his lap moving into eleventh with a 1m:33.527. Rubens quick lap was a 1m:33.567 to see him thirteenth. But with Petrov moving into eleventh Pastor and Rubens would drop to twelfth and fourteenth. Webber would continue and on his next lap he would set a 1m:31.049 to be fastest. Heidfeld was now eleventh
as Vettel went faster in sector one.

Both Pastor and Rubens were on better laps seeing Pastor move into tenth, 1m:32.751. Vettel was now fastest with a 1m:30.916 as the session came to an end while Rubens was fourteenth, 1m:33.179. So with the end of the session Vettel was fastest from Webber, Alonso, Hamilton, Button, Rosberg, Massa, Sutil, Schumacher, and Pastor in tenth. But both Williams cars were around two seconds off the pace of the quickest times. Pastor's effort was certainly encouraging but making it into the final period of qualifying could be an effort. Having said that it could all change if qualifying is affected by rain.
