Rubens Barrichello

After the opening Friday practice session for the 2011 Hungarian Grand Prix there would be no early pace from either of the AT&T Williams F1 drivers. Rubens Barrichello would finish in fourteenth while team-mate Pastor Maldonado was in eighteenth. But it is early in the weekend so hopefully some pace can be found.

Despite rain falling on the circuit prior to the opening Friday practice the track would dry out ahead of the first ninety minute session for the 2011 Hungarian Grand Prix. For the AT&T Williams F1 team this race would see more updates; new wing, bodywork, and suspension, for the FW33 which will be tested during Friday. For Renault Bruno Senna would be driving Heidfeld's car in this session. With the start of the session there would be a flow of drivers leaving the pits for their installation laps. Pastor Maldonado would come out first for the Williams team. Pirelli had brought the soft tyre as the prime and the super soft as the
option. The drivers would return to the pits while with close to five minutes of the session completed Rubens Barrichello would come out in the second Williams. Pastor had already returned to his pit. Rubens would also pit leaving just the two McLaren's and Massa on the track.

The McLaren's would pit followed by Massa, leaving the track empty. Massa would make a quick stop returning to the track. D'Ambrosio would also come out followed by Senna and then Glock. Massa was out doing a constant speed run while Senna would pit. Massa would come back in as we had Alguersuari and Hulkenberg take to the track. Alguersuari would pit leaving just Glock and Hulkenberg on the circuit. Alonso was next out as Hulkenberg set a 1m:31.073. Alonso would also pit as Hulkenberg set a 1m:29.671 on his second lap. Alonso's stop was a slow run through the pit lane seeing him back out. Hulkenberg would set a 1m:28.286 as Buemi took to the track. Alonso would pit as Buemi set a 1m:29.156. Button would leave the pits while Buemi was on a quick lap.

Hulkenberg had pitted as Buemi set a 1m:27.058. Ricciardo was next out with just over an hour remaining. Hamilton would also take to the track while Button would set a 1m:28.748 to be third. Buemi would lower his time with a 1m:26.040 but Button would move ahead with a 1m:25.697. Buemi would set a 1m:25.25.890 while Alguersuari would be third with a 1m:26.782. Pastor would come out for his first run joined by Rosberg. Button would improve his quickest time with a 1m:24.983 but it would be Hamilton who would go fastest with a
1m:24.284. Pastor's first time was a 1m:28.811 to be seventh. Massa would move in between the McLaren's to be second, 1m:24.291, but team-mate Alonso was put on the track and would go fastest with a 1m:24.179. Rosberg would be sixth but would improve to be fifth with a 1m:25.465.

Pastor was now in tenth with a 1m:26.845 while team-mate Rubens was one place behind with a 1m:28.008. Webber would move up to tenth seeing Pastor eleventh while Rubens was now twelfth. But both Williams drivers would improve seeing Pastor ninth, 1m:26.124, and Rubens eleventh, 1m:26.305. At the front Alonso had improved with a 1m:23.642 while Webber had moved up to second with a lap of 1m:23.666. Massa was now third with Hamilton and Button fourth and fifth. Vettel had yet to set a time while Schumacher was currently in fifteenth. Kobayashi was now sixth, 1m:25.449, while Rubens had moved ahead of Pastor currently been in twelfth, 1m:26.028, while Pastor had dropped to fourteenth, 1m:26.124. Pastor had pitted followed shortly after by Rubens. Schumacher was now in sixth but this would become seventh as Vettel jumped into third with a lap of 1m:23.968. Neither Lotus car had set a time with forty minutes remaining.

The track was fairly quite now as the drivers assessed their early runs. Vettel was on a quick lap been fastest in the first sector. He would finish his lap to go fastest with a 1m:23.564. Kovalainen and Trulli were now in eighteenth and nineteenth. For Williams Rubens and Pastor had dropped to fourteenth and sixteenth. Alonso was back out joined by Rosberg and Di Resta. Both Rubens and Pastor would return to the track with just over thirty minutes remaining. Vettel would run wide exiting Turn five and would then miss his braking at the chicane cutting the corner. Vettel would pit while we would see Button come out. Pastor
would have a moment running wide at Turn two. We also had both Sauber's on the track as the track started to get busy again.

Pastor was on an improved lap but he would not improve after losing time in the final sector. Webber was back out on the track along with Hamilton. Rubens would be talking to his engineer about his car and how the rear of the car was not performing. Button would move up to fourth with a 1m:24.017, while Rubens was up to twelfth with a time of 1m:25.836. Rubens would pit joining Pastor who had pitted earlier. Hamilton was on a quicker lap setting a 1m:23.689 to be fourth pushing Button to fifth. Button would pit while Hamilton would
go fastest in sector one, but he would be beaten by Schumacher. The first major moment in the session would be for Webber who would run wide putting his tyres onto the Astroturf at the side of the track at Turn nine. He would spin his car across the track hitting the barrier with the front of his car. He would be able to continue minus his front wing and with a punctured left front tyre, returning to the pits.

Hamilton had gone fastest with a 1m:23.350 while Vettel was back out. Hulkenberg was now tenth, 1m:25.357, but he would drop to eleventh as Petrov moved up to ninth, 1m:25.093. Pastor would complain of too much understeer always losing grip at the front. Rubens was now in fourteenth and Pastor seventeenth with fifteen minutes remaining in the session. There were only just a handful of cars on the track with twelve minutes remaining. Massa would pit while we would see Button and Alonso come back out. Pastor would also come back out as Vettel continued on a longer run. Rubens would also come back out while in the pits Frank Williams watch the session. Hamilton was also back out for his final run of the session. Vettel would pit with the track now very busy. Rubens was in fourteenth, 1m:25.836, while Pastor had dropped to eighteenth, 1m:26.124. With five minutes remaining it was Hamilton fastest from Vettel, Alonso, Webber, Button, Massa, Rosberg, Schumacher, Petrov, and Kobayashi.

Hamilton would go fastest in the first two sectors but would be held up by Alguersuari. Button had pitted as the final minutes counted down. Button would quickly come back out leaving just a damage car of Webber and Buemi in the pits. Hamilton would have a big lockup at Turn one flat spotting his right front tyre. The session would end with Hamilton still fastest. For the Williams team both Rubens and Pastor would not improve from their fourteenth and eighteenth. Both drivers had complained at some point in the session about
the behaviour of their cars and this was shown by their slow times in the session. But as usual it is the opening session of the weekend so hopefully the team will be able to find the right setup.
