Day three of the
Williams F1 teams Barcelona Test would see Pastor Maldonado make his first
appearance after having see Bruno Senna and Valtteri Bottas complete the
first two days. With the start of the day Pastor would come out for his
first run completing six
laps with times ranging from 1m:36s to 1m:29s. He would pit and after a
twenty minute stop in his pit he would return for another short run of five
laps. This time his times were in the 1m:25s, pitting after having completed
a total of sixteen laps. Pastor's runs in the morning were quite short been
only five laps. He would complete a further three runs and it would be on
his third that he would set his quickest time with a 1m:24.537.
This would see Pastor second behind Schumacher who had set a 1m:24.176.
Pastor's time was set on the soft tyre and he would pit after thirty seven
laps. With other drivers improving Pastor would drop down to third. As the
day progressed Pastor would complete
a series of short runs, around three laps each, and it would be in his final
run before the lunch break that he would set his quickest time, a 1m:22.391,
that would see him fastest by 0.993 seconds. Pastor was on the super soft
tyre for this quick time. At the lunch break Pastor had completed fifty two
laps.
After the lunch break Pastor would complete two six laps runs with times in
the 1m:28s. While Pastor was completing shorter runs other teams were
involved in longer race simulation type runs. Pastor would also complete
practice starts at the end of the pit
lane. His runs were conducted on the soft tyre. Pastor's next run would see
him in the 1m:31s. He would complete thirteen laps prior to pitting. As the
last hour of the day commenced Pastor was still in his pit. But he would
come back out again setting times
in the 1m:31s, completing around a dozen laps prior to pitting. This would
see Pastor's day come to an end with him setting the fastest time.
Mark Gillan, Chief Operations Engineer: It has been a very pleasing
day with Pastor successfully completing his whole run plan, covering 106
trouble-free laps. We started with some aerodynamic correlation runs,
followed by race weekend preparation and set-up
optimisation. In the background, we also ran some bodywork cooling sweeps
throughout the day.
Pastor Maldonado: It was a good day today, as we completed all of our
planned programme with no issues. We have put more mileage on the car which
is great for everyone here and back at the factory as we now have a lot more
data to analyse. The car is progressing well and I feel everything is going
in the right direction.
The Williams F1 Team will be back on track tomorrow, Friday 24 February,
with Pastor Maldonado continuing in the FW34 for the final day of the test.
