Qualifying for the 2012 British GP would be a lengthy session with the second period being red flagged as a result of heavy rain. For the Williams F1 team the session would see Pastor Maldonado finish in seventh and Bruno Senna fifteenth.

After having a dry third practice session, which saw Williams F1 drivers Pastor Maldonado and Bruno Senna finish in seventh and eleventh, the teams would have to face rain falling as they prepared for qualifying. The rain would make tyre choice a big factor as rain was expected to last for at least the first twenty minute period. We would see the cars lined up at the end of the pit lane with all the drivers looking to get out very early. Intermediates were the tyre of choice as the conditions became worse. Pastor was out early followed shortly after by Bruno. Massa would be the last man out on the track as Race Control announced that DRS was disabled.

Kobayashi would set a 1m:50.411 as we had a rush of times comi8ng in. Pastor's first lap was a 1m:52.409 which was good enough for sixth but he would drop down the order as we had Massa fastest with a 1m:49.588 from Schumacher, Rosberg and Kobayashi in fourth. Pastor was now twelfth and Bruno seventeenth. Bruno's next lap would see him move up the order with a 1m:50.448. Pastor would also find time to be third with a 1m:49.459.

Hamilton was now fastest with a 1m:49.175 from Ricciardo. But Massa would go fastest with a 1m:48.499. Bruno was now in thirteenth as the drivers still found more time. Kobayashi was now fastest with a 1m:47.840 from Hamilton, Vergne, Alonso, Massa, and Webber. Schumacher would move up to third, 1m:48.083. Vergne was now fastest with a 1m:47.705 but quickly he would be passed by several drivers. Pastor was now fastest with a 1m:47..123 from Ricciardo and Perez. Vettel was in sixth from Hamilton and Schumacher in ninth. Bruno was now fourteenth with nine
minutes remaining in the period. In no time Pastor would drop to fourth with Perez now fastest with a 1m:46.494 followed by Kobayashi and Grosjean.

Schumacher would jump up to second, 1m:46.571 with Pastor now sixth. Bruno was now in seventeenth with a 1m:48.548. Pastor would make up time going fastest again with a 1m:46.449 but Hulkenberg would move to the top with a 1m:46.334. Vettel was now fastest with a 1m:46.279. Both Sauber's had pitted and would come back out on the soft slicks. Bruno would improve with a 1m:47.105 to be ninth while Pastor was third. Perez was fourth from Alonso, Schumacher and Kobayashi. Kobayashi would return to the pits joined by Perez obviously the conditions were not ready for slicks. The rain continued to fall as we had Rosberg and Button in seventeenth and eighteenth. Button would pit taking on intermediates. Ricciardo would move up to tenth. The last minute would count down with both Williams cars back in their pits.

Hamilton was down in fourteenth and on a quick lap. The period would end with Hamilton losing time in the last sector remaining fourteenth. Rosberg had pitted still in seventeenth. Button would cross the line and he was out of qualifying only managing eighteenth. Joining Button was Petrov, Kovalainen, Glock, De la Rosa, Karthikeyan and Pic. The top ten was Vettel from Hulkenberg, Pastor, Perez, Alonso, Schumacher, Kobayashi, Grosjean, Bruno, and Ricciardo. Both Williams cars had made it into Q2 after what was a period of rapidly changing track conditions.

Again we would have a line of drivers waiting at the end of the pit lane looking to get out early. As for the rain it was now falling heavier. Vettel was last to come out as it started to enter conditions that may require full wets. Both Williams casr were on intermediates as we had both Ferrari's pit for wets. As the times weer set we had Perez fastest with a 1m:59.092 from Rosberg, and Vergne. Hamilton would move up to second, 1m:59.581. Pastor was in tenth with a 2m:01.717. Bruno had yet to set a time while Schumacher would spin and go across the gravel. Alonso would also spin on the Hangar straight luckily not hitting anything.

Pastor was now eleventh with Vettel now tenth. The conditions were getting worse by the minute while for Williams Bruno had yet to set a time. Alonso was on the radio calling for the red flag. More drivers were going off the track as it became harder and harder for the tyres to shift the necessary water. As a result there would then be a red flag shown. With the cars all back in their pits the top ten was Perez from Hamilton, Rosberg, Vergne, Hulkenberg, Kobayashi, Raikkonen, Webber, Ricciardo, and Vettel in tenth. For Williams Pastor was in eleventh and Bruno seventeenth not having set a time. There was six minutes and nineteen seconds remaining in the period.

After a lengthy delay of over an hour the period would finally get underway with both Williams drivers coming back out on the full wet tyre. The full wet weather tyre seemed to be the tyre of choice. Only Raikkonen and Kobayashi were on intermediates. Across the track there was still a fait amount of water but the conditions were better. Kobayashi would pit taking on the full wet tyre. Grosjean was on a quick lap while for Williams Bruno was out to set a time. Grosjean would finish with a 1m:57.634 to be fastest with Perez second. Alonso would move up to second with Pastor fourth, 1m:59.507. It was all happening as the quickest times fell. Webber was now fastest with a 1m:55.898 from Hulkenberg and Schumacher. Pastor was in eleventh with a 1m:59.507 while Bruno was in thirteenth. Pastor would improve to be sixth, 1m:57.230, but this would drop to eighth as Hamilton went fastest with a 1m:54.897. Bruno was down in seventeenth with a 1m:58.301. Pastor was eleventh as Di resta moved into ninth. Raikkonen was in sixth as Pastor now eighth.

Bruno was now fifteenth as the period came to an end. Grosjean would put his car into the gravel ending his qualifying. This is a shame as he was fifth. Those not making the cut were Di Resta, Kobayashi, Rosberg, Ricciardo, Bruno, Vergne, and Perez. The top ten was Hamilton from Hulkenberg, Schumacher, Webber, Grosjean, Massa, Raikkonen, Pastor, Alonso, and Vettel in tenth. Replays had shown that Bruno had made a small mistake that had cost him time.

Senna

With Pastor in the top ten he would leave the pits running on intermediates. With the start of the final ten minute it would be Pastor out first with no one behind him. He would be followed shortly after by several drivers. Pastor was told to stay out all the period and that no extra rain was expected. Vettel was also on the intermediate tyre with all nine drivers out on the track. Hamilton was on the full wet seeing him come back in to change to intermediates. Pastor was on his first timed lap with Raikkonen following him. Schumacher and Raikkonen were both on full wet tyres.

A 1m:58.016 from Pastor while Raikkonen set a 2m:03.978. Massa was now fastest with a 1m:55.617. But Schumacher on full wets would set a 1m:54.091 as Alonso sets a 1m:53.699 on intermediates. A 1m:54.810 from Vettel to be third. Hulkenberg was now fourth as Raikkonen pitted. A 1m:55.368 to be fourth. Massa was now fastest with a 1m:53.549. Alonso would take this spot with a 1m:52.544. Hamilton was now fifth and Pastor sixth. Vettel was again third with a 1m:53.843. Webber was now second with a 1m:53.153. It was starting to get darker with Pastor now seventh. Massa would again finds time with a 1m:53.065 to be second. Webber was on a quick lap seeing him set a 1m:51.793 to be fastest.

Pastor was on a better lap seeing him come across in fourth as the period came to an end. Raikkonen was up to fourth seeing Pastor drop to fifth. Hamilton could only manage sixth, 1m:53.543, but it would be Alonso going fastest with a 1m:51.746. Webber was not able to respond but Schumacher would move up to third with a 1m:52.020. Vettel was fourth from Massa, Raikkonen, Pastor, Hamilton, and Hulkenberg. Grosjean will start from tenth after his mistake in the second period. For the Williams F1 team we will see Pastor start from seventh and Bruno fifteenth. As for their chances in Sunday's race it may all come down to the weather.
