 Bottas reveals details of FW35

In an interview with Finnish broadcaster MTV3, Williams' 2013 driver Valtteri Bottas discussed details of the 2013 Williams F1 car the FW35. Valtteri spoke of how the new car will have a different look to the nose, being allowed to run with a panel that hides the step of the front nose that featured on the 2012 FW34. Despite this change it is not expected to provide any real aerodynamic benefit.

Valtteri said ""As far as looks, the car is pretty much as it was last yea. With the new rules, the step nose is straightened. That is the biggest difference in appearance.

"The new car is a development version of last year's. There are certain improvements in aerodynamics. We have tried to focus on getting more traction in corners."

The Williams team is yet to reveal at date for the launch of the FW35, it is expected that the car will be shown to the public on the first day of testing in early February. The team will then have twelve days of testing with six days been allocated to each Williams driver.

Ouch, i have to pay more attention to what he is saying to the Finnish media...

But here is the latest interview with Bottas from TS:

Quote:
Decathlete Ojaniemi will be Bottas' trainer
F1 | Turun Sanomat 23:44

Valtteri Bottas is training for the opening GP with a Finnish trainer. Jaakko Ojaniemi has been his trainer ever since christmas.

32-years old Ojaniemi is known as one of the toughest decathletes and he competed last year also.

Ojaniemi is Finland's 3rd of all times with his record points 8192.

He comes as Valtteri's trainer and travelling partner to F1 from Aki Hintsa's physio-team.

Testis start with the old car

Bottas is praising to Turun Sanomat that the training with Ojaniemi has been very tough. They will focus on the physical training for a while until winter tests start 5th of February in Spain.

Williams already announced that their new FW35 -car will be presented 19th of February in Barcelona. Hence Bottas and Pastor Maldonado get to drive the new car only four days before the F1-season begins.

The delay with the new car hasn't caused any confusion.

– We have prepared ourselves all the time for using last year's car during the first testing period.

We get to try out a lot of parts for the new car in it, but of course the main focus is to get a feeling of Pirelli's tires for this year, Bottas tells.

– The tire compounds are different from last year. We get to see how they behave in testing.

– On Thursday we finished my new seat. I have trained and taken part in meetings with the engineers.

Race engineer also promoted

Bottas got the young promoted British engineer Jonathan Eddolls. He will be Valtteri's race engineer.

Eddolls has a long experience as a data engineer. He was working when Nico Rosberg, Rubens Barrichello and Bruno Senna drove at Williams. Last year he was getting used to co-operation with Bottas when he was the team's test driver during Friday mornings.

Thanks for sharing. Interesting that Williams never intended to make the tests with the FW35. Maybe people will stop crying about it being late and therefore @#$%& now.

Not here. No no no. I am on a motorsport course at uni. All I've heard today is uncontrollable @#$%& about how @#$%& the car is going to be and how williams have gone downhill. It's more than a little irritating to say the least.

Ok, jumped at you a bit there and I'm sory for that. Probably because I know exactly what you mean. Anytime I speak to anyone else outside forums such as this about F1, all I encounter is horrendous ignorance. So many people think that 2012 was bad for Williams purely because of the ultimate WCC position. Naturally, when you counter with evidence of how good the car really was, they just shrug and say "so what, still worse than Force India" sigh.

The only person I know who has any good F1 knowledge at work is an older lady, a cleaner who's been to many GPs and, I think, makes F1 her life. I have great discussions with her very day, yet she still says she hates us because Frank Williams killed Ayrton Senna (Sm31). Oh yeah, and she is, surprises of surprises a McLaren fan.

No worries we all get a little touch sensitive when Williams is mentioned because we know far more about it than they could ever dream of. And yet they insist on telling us we are wrong. Well the old lady seems to be both a blessing and a curse in one. It is a shame she feels that way Senna's death can be blamed on one person sad smiley On the other hand, having someone to talk to about F1 at work must be good smiling smiley

Cool thread. Thanks for sharing, NCW, I find the story about the cleaner hating SFW fascinating. As if SFW had anything to do with the structural integrity of the steering column? As annoying as it is, I never fail to wonder at the effect Sennas personality still has on people, even to this day.
