The second day of the Williams F1 teams test at the Jerez circuit would again see Pastor Maldonado carry out the driving duties. His day would see him complete a lap of 1m:29.939 but he would pit not reappearing until early in the afternoon in the days as a result of a clutch issue which took the team some time to sort out. Mike Coughlan, Technical Director: We had a clutch installation problem this morning which was a bit disappointing considering it was the same as we had been running last season. We quickly remedied this but it lost us time during our aero evaluations this morning. However, we will be able to recover this time over the next two days. This afternoon the focus was back on tyre work and we also made some subtle set-up changes which has given us a good direction for the new car. The new technical team is working well and we will now prepare to change drivers with Valtteri taking over for the final two days, something he is very much looking forward to.
.
Pastor Maldonado: We did some good running this afternoon going through our planned tests but there is still a lot to do to understand the tyres even better. We have a lot of data to look through from today and there is a good atmosphere in the team. I know Andrew, my new Race Engineer, well as he’s been my Performance Engineer for the last two years, so it feels very natural to continue working together.

AS for the fact that the team is running last years car in an interview for Autosprt Pastor said: "We are confident with the new car. But we want to be even more confident.

"With the test we planned to do here, there is no better way to do it than with the other car because we have a lot of confidence in it, a lot of data to compare and we are going to be more clear [in understanding the tyres] with it.

"We are trying small parts in the car, different things and different settings to try and understand the components.

"It is very important to be here with the old car."

As for how the 2013 car will perform Pastor felt that it will be better.

Pastor added: "It's a step. We try to look at every single component, everything.

"But all the cars look very similar to last year because the rules are the same.

"It's a small improvement all round the car and we are quite confident that it will be very competitive this year, even better than the previous one."

The Williams F1 Team will be back on track tomorrow, Thursday 7 February, with Valtteri Bottas getting behind the wheel of the FW34 for the third day of the test.
