The opening
Friday practice for the 2014 Spanish Grand Prix would again see Williams
Martini driver Felipe Nasr take over the driving duties from team-mate
Valtteri Bottas. He would be joined by Felipe Massa. For this weekend
Pirelli had brought their medium and hard tyres to this demanding circuit.
The Williams team,
like most other teams, had come prepared with a range of upgrades. With the
start of the ninety minute session it would be Massa out first for the team
followed shortly after by Nasr. As the drivers completed their installation
laps they would pit with Ericsson coming in first. The first driver to set a
time would be Kvyat with a 1m:37.986.
Both Williams drivers would pit followed by the rest of the field. Kvyat had
lowered his time to a 1m:36.471 prior to pitting. With twenty five minutes
of the session complete it would be Hamilton fastest, 1m:28.028, from
Rosberg and Alonso. For Williams Nasr was in sixth with a time of 1m:29.457
and Massa eighth, 1m:29.866. For the Williams team the session would see
them focus on aero work. As the session progressed comments concerning the
FW36 seemed to indicate that the car is struggling at the rear end.
The session would end with Massa in tenth, 1m:28.791, and Nasr fourteenth,
1m:29.272. Quickest at the end of the session was Hamilton, 1m:27.023, from
Button, Ricciardo, Alonso, Rosberg, Raikkonen, Magnussen, Maldonado, and
Perez ninth. |
