Malaysian GP: Williams Martini 5th & 6th in GP

THe Williams Martini team wpould secure a double points scoring result in the 2015 Malaysian GP. Valtteri would finish in 5th while team-mate Felipe Massa would come home in 6th. Felipe had led Valtteri for most of the race but in the closing laps Valtteri was able to get past Felipe taking 5th. It was a difficult race with Felipe being delayed in a pit stop while Valtteri would have to recover from a poor start.

On a sunny day the Williams Martini team would have their drivers Felipe Massa and Valtteri Bottas start the fifty six lap 2015 Malaysian Grand Prix from seventh and eighth. Everyone except for the McLaren's were on the medium tyre, with those outside the top ten on new medium tyres. The grid would form up and with the start it would be Hamilton leading from Vettel, Rosberg and Ricciardo. Felipe was up in fifth while Valtteri had made a poor start being down in fourteenth. Maldonado would pit with a puncture as the cars completed the first lap. Raikkonen would also have a puncture and would be past the pit entrance seeing him having to continue. Nasr had made contact with the Ferrari which would see the Sauber having to pit to get a new nose.

Felipe was now 6.0 seconds behind Hamilton while at the from Vettel continue to run with the Mercedes. Raikkonen would pit while we would see Ericcson spin at Turn one ending up in the gravel. Verstappen who was ninth was told to let Sainz through but Verstappen would pit joined by Hamilton, Rosberg, Ricciardo, Felipe and Kvyat. All changed to the hard tyre in their stops except for Felipe who took on a set of new mediums. Valtteri had also come in also taking on new set of mediums. Valtteri's stop was slow as he had to wait for his left rear. Vettel was leading from Hulkenberg while Felipe was down in seventh followed by Rosberg. Hamilton would pass Perez with Felipe and Rosberg also getting past. Valtteri was down in twelfth. Only the Mercedes cars and Verstappen of the front runners were on the hard tyre. Vettel continued to lead from Hulkenberg, Grosjean, Hamilton, Sainz, and Ricciardo. Rosberg had been able to pass Felipe for seventh.

Valtteri was now in tenth while Hamilton passed Sainz and would continue to move forward getting past both Grosjean and Hulkenberg. Vettel was now leading by 9.9 seconds over Hamilton, Hulkenberg, Grosjean, Sainz, Ricciardo, Rosberg, Felipe, and Valtteri now in ninth. Rosberg would pass Ricciardo now in sixth. Both Williams were now running close together with thirteen laps completed with the pair eighth and ninth. Felipe would pass Ricciardo for seventh while Rosberg continued to move forward and was now in third running nine seconds behind Hamilton. Sainz and Raikkonen would both pit dropping down the order. Hulkenberg was in fourth while Felipe would pass Grosjean for fifth. Hulkenberg and Grosjean would pit seeing Valtteri now fifth and Felipe fourth.

Vettel had now completed eighteen laps on the medium tyre with Hamilton sill nine seconds behind the Ferrari. Vettel would pit on lap nineteen seeing Hamilton now leading from Rosberg and Vettel out in third. Both Williams drivers remained in fourth and fifth with Verstappen sixth. Alonso and Button were ninth and tenth. Felipe was now 9.2 seconds behind Vettel with both Williams drivers having completed fourteen laps on the medium tyre. Vettel had also taken on a new set of medium tyres for his second stint. Rosberg was closing the gap to Hamilton with it now 7.4 seconds after lap twenty. Raikkonen would pass Button for ninth while team-mate Vettel would able to pass Rosberg for second as Alonso was told to pit to retire. With the Williams pair a second of the pace in front it was looking like that a fourth and fifth was all that they could hope for.

Vettel was closing in onto Hamilton rapidly with the gap down to 5.0 seconds. On one lap alone Vettel was two seconds faster. Hamilton would ay that the rears were dropping off. Verstappen would pass Ricciardo for tenth. Sainz was in eighth running behind Grosjean. Both Williams drivers had completed nineteen laps on their medium tyre. Hamilton would pit on lap twenty six seeing Rosberg now second and Hamilton coming back in in third running on the mediums. Felipe would also pit seeing Valtteri now fourth. Felipe was back out in eighth running behind Sainz in seventh. Rosberg would pit and would return in fourth behind Raikkonen. Felipe was now sixth and Valtteri eighth with Valtteri yet to make a second stop. Rosberg would move forward and pass Raikkonen while Hamilton was 20.8 seconds behind Vettel with Rosberg 13.9 seconds behind his team-mate. Hamilton was on the medium tyre but Rosberg was still on the hard.

Felipe and Valtteri were now running in fifth and seventh with thirty one laps completed. Felipe had pass Sainz for fifth while the Torro Rosso driver would drop down the order to be eight with Verstappen and Valtteri sixth and seventh. Ricciardo and Kvyat were ninth and tenth. Sainz would pit on lap thirty four returning in thirteenth. Valtteri was able to pass Verstappen for sixth seeing the Williams pair now fifth and sixth with twenty one laps remaining. Raikkonen would pit on lap thirty six coming back out in seventh. The order was now Vettel leading Hamilton, Rosberg, Felipe, Valtteri, Verstappen, Raikkonen, Kvyat, Sainz, and Ricciardo. Vettel would pit on lap thirty nine seeing Hamilton now leading . Vettel had taken on a set of hard tyres coming back out in front of Rosberg. Vettel was able to keep Rosberg behind as they went through Turn one and opened a small gap. Hamilton told his team that his tyres were not feeling good.

Hamilton would pit on lap forty taking on the medium tyre. Felipe would also pit dropping to seventh, now on the hard tyre. Hamilton would say that the medium tyre was the wrong tyre. Vettel was now leading from Rosberg, Hamilton, Valtteri, Raikkonen, Verstappen, Felipe, Sainz, Ricciardo, and Kvyat. Valtteri would pit dropping to sixth now on the hard tyre. Rosberg had also pitted seeing Hamilton now second. Button would retire his McLaren with an engine issue. Rosberg was now very quick on his medium tyre and closing in onto Hamilton but it was still a very big gap. Hamilton was told he needed to do 1m:42.7s to catch Vettel, but he was only lapping in 1m:43.2s. Ten laps remaining both Williams drivers were looking safe in fifth and sixth. Rosberg's challenge to Hamilton was fading a bit while Hamilton was 11.7 seconds behind Vettel. Sainz and Verstappen were seventh and eighth beating the Red Bull drivers with Ricciardo and Kvyat ninth and tenth.

Both Williams drivers were told that they were racing each other for fifth. Verstappen would pass Sainz for seventh. Six laps remaining and Rosberg was 8.0 seconds behind Hamilton while Vettel was getting close to lapping the cars of his old Red Bull team. Valtteri had closed right up into DRS range of Felipe with two laps remaining. Vettel would start his last lap as Valtteri tried to get past Felipe using his DRS. Valtteri was able to get past Felipe for fifth while at the front Vettel would complete his lap and take victory in the 2015 Malaysian Grand Prix. Hamilton and Rosberg would finish second and third followed by Raikkonen, Valtteri, Felipe, Verstappen, Sainz, Kvyat, and Ricciardo.
